So... should I? I'm not really sure about spending $560 on one game

My gaming TV is a 50" Vizio, for those wondering.

You may be asking yourself, can I afford to get a PS5? What I would ask instead is, can you afford NOT to?

Seriously though if there arent other games you want now, there are bound to be eventually. I would get a PS5 if you feel that its financially responsible to do so. Only reason to wait would be you dont anticipate being able to play a lot in the next few months for some reason, in which case maybe wait until potential Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and see what other games might interest you.

I can afford not to. I have a humongous backlog, but wanted to know if XVI alone was worth buying a console for. And fish for other recommendations for exclusives.

A lot of people are waiting 6 months for XVI to be ported. Other exclusives, er, Demon's Souls Remake, Astro's Playroom, yeah, I think that covers it.

It should be noted that 6 months is the exclusivity deal. They've said that they don't expect to finish a port by then.

Do not expect XVI to hit PC in 6 months. Cross your fingers for a year.

I love the PS5, sure the amount of exclusives aren't the highest, but they're mostly strong, and the amount of games that perform much, MUCH better and faster on the console compared to PS4 is severe. Honestly it's like the last 2 or 3 years of the PS4's life cycle were backports. Could not imagine ever looking at God of War or Spiderman on the PS4 ever again.

If some of those are PS4 games, just get the PS5 now for a superior experience

Buying a console for one game is already pretty stupid. But buying one for a game that will be ported in a year is even dumber. I actually expected next gen to have picked up by now but FF16 is pretty much the start by the looks of things.

At this point getting a PS5 is purely a question of 1) Do you have a gaming PC and 2) If so, are you willing to wait a little while for "exclusives" to peel off?

If you don't have a PC and have no interest in getting one, it seems like the next best pairing with a Switch if you want to play all the games. If you do have a PC, maybe it's still worth hundreds of dollars to you to be able to play games before they inevitably end up free from console jail. FFXVI nearly broke my will, so I would understand! But yeah factoring in the Nvidia leak list and Sony's practices so far, the only games out or even forthcoming that are at all likely to stay PS5 exclusive are Astro's Playroom and *checks notes* Destruction AllStars.

This is why I'm asking. I was curious if there were any games I didn't remember, but nobody's recommended anything else that's an exclusive. I wasn't gonna just drop $560 on a single game like a moron.

1) Yes. It's not high-end, but it does the job. Windows doesn't think I can upgrade to 11 for some reason despite upgrading my GPU last year. If that means anything.
2) Yes. I have enough of a backlog.

So I guess that answers that.

Get it for the faster load times.

Especially if you like Doom Eternal

Fixed it for you. I tested out Yakuza 7 and FF7R, and the load times went from like 30-45 seconds to like 2...

This seems pretty easy

Don't go into debt for it obviously, but if you have extra money then obviously buy it because you are going to want it eventually and you might as well do it now.

Also I don't know why nobody is mentioning exclusives. Rather and Clank, Ragnarok, Returnal, Demons Souls, these are all great.

Returnal is on PC now.

That really is the heart of it, true exclusives are much less a thing, its all about console exclusives/timed exclusives now unless youre Nintendo anyway. However, if your PC is getting on a bit a PS5 makes sense as a stopgap before youre ready to upgrade. The features of the PS5 such as the SSD and the DualSense are quite impressive. It is a great way, often the best way, to play games available on other platforms.

Returnal is awesome.

Also worth noting that Sony raised the price of the PS5 in a bunch of countries. Wouldn't be surprised if they do it again in the future.

I certainly would have mentioned Returnal if it were still a PS5 exclusive.

That's generally based on your CPU. I know my CPU doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11.

As for your question, if spending $560 is making you pause then maybe reconsider since we don't know your financial situation.

You can always hold out for a possible redesign whenever that may happen.

Returnal is already on PC, R&C is coming next month, Rangnarok and Demons Souls are just a matter of time.

Honestly, it's at this point mostly a question of if you prefer to play on PC or console. "Console jail" is a stupid term.

The other thing is wanting to wait. It's been a while since Demon Souls was released. It's a pretty long time. A bunch of the best PS5 games are also on ragnarok PS4 but run pretty terribly on it while loading times on PS5 are a blessing. But you already said your baglog was big enough.

So yeah, you're left with personal preference. Spending "560 dollars" on one game is misleading of course. But if youd prefer to play on PC when given the choice then you should probably not get a PS5.

I'm in the same spot. My PC can play PS5 gen games decently, but it would be a bit better on PS5. Returnal is great on PC, except for the frequent random crashes, and I wouldn't want to play a shooter on controller. But God of War, XVI, 7R2, etc I would want on console.

My unsolvable problem is that my PS4 has PT so I can never get rid of it.

I will say, one of the main things XVI has going for it is that it looks stunning, and if it looked worse on a PC that would hurt the experience.
