The blackout was a huge failure honestly. Too bad, I was on the side of the mods for this one.

Is it? I know there was a push from ppl here to move to reddit I never did. I got caught up in the Discord Hoopa (overtime) but it is hilarious when at your shitty mall job someone at work openly admits they talk like a Redditor and I was like you missed out on Gamefaqs.

Yeah, more or less. They keep trying to come up with new, increasingly-desperate ways to keep the protest going, but I think most people stopped caring already.

The time for serious engagement was on the day of the original blackout starting. Once that commenced, people realized how obnoxious it was to have most of their favorite subreddits closed, and they looked into the whole API fiasco and realized that most users won't be directly affected at all.

At that point, a lot of people just wanted the whole thing to be over with. Certain subreddits that were safe spaces and niche gathering spots were privated or blacked out for a long time and it made their users feel betrayed. A lot of comments were about how the mods were just trying to flex power they didn't actually have, and how their crusade was actually just making everybody else dislike the mods more than they disliked the admins.

In fact, when the admins came in and forced subs open, a lot of people were grateful to Reddit itself for stepping in and opening the content.

Safe to say at this point that the mod-led blackout protest was a Hindenburg-level disaster.

most of my subs disappeared for at least a week, honestly made me realize i wont lose much quitting reddit, so I'll probably delete on June 30.

Nah there's still a lot of boards still closed. Mostly it's the tech boards though. I don't know how well the migration to Lemmy is going, but it seems to be the name I hear the most.

I'd check ReVanced and your corresponding 3rd party reddit app subreddit for workarounds before end of the month

Tbf I get protests can make a difference and the internet is a world I also feel like sometimes a good 'ol sit down strike did wonders somehow in the past.

The important part is that blind people won't be able to use reddit after third party apps die.

Some of my smaller subs are still dark and one major one is only allowing posts in one thread. It's annoying, but I get it. Reddit's API changes are awful.

i'm still missing two or three. Archer being the only one really noteworthy.

They kicked one of the most shitty, racist, sexist power mods as well. A step in the right direction.
