Any of you car gurus know a good 4-door sedan I can get used for $25k or so?

I do not know a lot about cars.

camry or corolla

Edit: buy used by 3 years or so and save the money you would have spent on a brand new car. Both sedans are crazy reliable and parts are cheap for both, so it comes down to what you can find and what looks/drives better I'm your opinion

Might be camry then. Can't go wrong with Toyota, they are bulletproof if you do regular maintenance. Mazda 3s are really good cars as well.

I got a 17 chrysler 200s (has a lot of features I like, awd, backup cam? Etc) for around 19k. You could get a dodge dart for around the same too.

Yo can also look at the first few 23 models in the line for a lot of companies to get a lotta good listing for or around 20-25k

Stuff like a Corolla, Mazda 3, Sentra, Alantra, and so on.

Do NOT buy an Elantra or Sentra. Insurance will kill you on these cars, even if they're not the models that everyone is stealing. I've watched a coworker get their car broken into twice this summer.

Buying a car is ultimately always a bad decision. We overpay for them unless you underpay the factory price. Insurance is a rip off, gas is a rip off. Repairs are a rip off. Might as well drive you something you like

And here I'm close to being in the same boat, but I still got a 2009 Nissan Sentra (it only just hit 100K miles like a week ago; I dun drive much)..
No real issues with it so far aside from needing to reapply the window tinting.

Yeah the Mazda 3 is pretty cool for being a more basic car.

Id probably buy new though. The used market is kind of shit and you barely save anything in exchange for the cars best miles being behind it (and having no/less of a warranty and possibly free service/maintenance you get for buying new.

This is bad advice there is a huge difference in build quality between car brands and models. Take for example the Ford Focus models built around 2015 or 2016. They have a transmission that is known to go out about once a year. Cost like 2 grand to get it fixed plus down time on your vehicle. ALWAYS research a vehicle before you buy it and NEVER buy a vehicle that has common expensive repairs.

This is horrible reasoning and a great way to stay poor. I hope nobody takes your advice. Living your life on instant gratification for something as crucial as a commuter car is a terrible decision.
Gas, insurance and repairs are something you have a degree of control over, namely by choosing a low maintenance, high mpg car.

Dropping 25k on a shitty used muscle car is insane, and you will absolutely come out the other end poorer than someone who didn't make that choice.

i drive a charger. it's a great car, fun to drive. heavy as fuck though, and mine's rwd so winter sucks.
it's fine for me as far as gas, etc. because i don't have a long commute and am capable of doing most minor repairs. my insurance is cheap too because i shop around and have a spotless (and i mean spotless) record. no tickets, no accidents, zilch.
but if that's not you, then absolutely do not get a charger. when you do need serious repairs, they tend to be on the costly side, gas is obviously a bitch if you do drive a lot, not so bad if you get the v6 models though, i naturally am stupid and have a v8 hemi so i can go to work and get groceries with POWER (and in reality chargers are nothing to write home about in terms of power unless you're not rolling stock).
plus if you get a white or black one, everyone's going to think you're a cop and drive slow around you.

Trumpo posted...

small cars isn't so much about weight but frame. like, my sister used to have a chevy cruze and my head touched the roof with the seat all the way down, plus i had to drive with my elbows tucked in. just a very cramped car if you're 6'.
meanwhile in the charger i could probably get three people in the front if it didn't have a center console.

Lmao I'm not poor, but I don't see the point in dropping money on a Lexus when I can buy something cheap and use that money for something else.

You're right that buying a car is a losing game, but why lose 60k when you can lose 20 and spend the 40 on something else. Doesn't make sense to me.

Its not even like that anymore either though. Like lets say I wanted the cheaper version of a Lexus by getting a regular Toyota. Theyre still 40k plus for like a 4Runner or rav4. Might as well spend a little more and get top of the line

Might be smaller than what you want, but speaking just from the safety aspect of things, I will forever be a proponent of the Prius. I was absolutely creamed late last year by a huge SUV that ran right into my door in an intersection. I was pretty banged up, but with all the airbags and structural design I got out of it without even a broken bone. I'm certain that in a lot of other small to midsize cars I'd have been seriously fucked.
