Which FF after Square and Enix merged is the best?










I'd say remakes count, remasters don't. So the FFIV Remake on DS is legit, while the Pixel Remasters don't.

There hasnt been an all time great game since the merge, but I havent tried 16 yet.

11 and 14 were joke level bad.

12 > 13 > 15, but its close for all of them. And Lightning is easily the best character they have introduced.

Id say of all these, ive enjoyed Heavensward the most, so ff14

And i hear shadowbringers is even better. Thats probably top 5 FF from what i hear

X-2 has some of the best combat in the entire series tho

as much as I'd like to give my niche bearers game a nod, I mean the answer does have to be 14

*edit* although I wasn't thinking about XI because of the options....... okay for me personally it's tricky because I've finished XI and I love its characters and plot but XIV is a significantly much more playable game but I haven't actually gotten past Heavensward yet. At this point I love XI's characters more and I've experienced its best stories, but as a game I would much rather be playing 14.

It's been XVI for me so far but I haven't played any of the others past XIII, many of which I never will. And I only ever played original XII which has had some gameplay improvements in later releases I think?

Side note: Do we know how far in the story they're getting in Rebirth yet?

I do just want to take a moment to say that before I played 14 I didn't just dislike MMOs, I decried then as a completely worthless genre that people only played out of addiction. So, like, you never know!

But not everyone has the patience for 400 hours of MSQ nor the luck of having a 10-day long eventless staycation coincidentally begin just a week after starting up the game.

I think my general FF tiers go

X > VI > VII > IX > XIV (all-time classics)

XII > V (the edge of all-time classic status)

IV > XVI (tentatively) > VII Remake (great if lacking a certain spark)

VIII > XV > III > I > XIII (flawed but good enough)

(have not played II or XI)

So none of them beat out the big 4, but few games do

Final Fantasy XIII-2 > Final Fantasy XIV > Final Fantasy XII > Final Fantasy VII Remake > Final Fantasy XIII > Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII > Final Fantasy X-2 > Final Fantasy XV

13-2 would rank okay among the Squaresoft games. It's pretty great.

If "Other" is for spinoffs, I like Theatrhythm Final Bar Line better than any of these.

I was jobless in 2021 due to getting a new job and being fired by a lunatic who had insane expectations on how long it takes to train someone, so I was looking for something to play in the meantime. I ALMOST tried the FFXIV free demo, but then they had all the server issues and the free players were sidelined.

I picked up Genshin Impact instead.

The merger wasn't actually official until April of 2003 so technically FFX-2 doesn't fit as post-merger
