People just kinda forgot about it and all the subs are back up.

/r/videos is still acting like little bitches but all other sub-reddits are basically back to business as usual. RIP Apollo (I never used it)

If you think that viewing Reddit on the Reddit app is unacceptable, you probably need some serious time away from Reddit.

Bunch of mods threw a tantrum, fucked around, then found out only a few of them are still crying as the majority of users have clearly sided with the evil admins.

The blackouts only proved to users that either those mods were power hungry or that some subs were just useless. I know I cleaned out a lot of the default subs and my feed is better for it.

I kept hearing about it, but never saw it affect anything for me.

Admins made dumb changes then doubled down with all sorts of underhanded tactics, people protested, admins didn't listen.

Nothing more they can really do, Reddit is just gonna start going down the drain.

I think maybe less than a quarter of the original subs are still holding to their protests. A sub I would constantly frequent completely disappeared and only reappeared again in the wee hours of this morning. They put up a poll asking their users if they should still continue with their blackout or if they should put the sub back and find another way to protest.

Reddit's ultimatum as "we'll do it ourselves," so I don't think anyone really had much of a choice unless they wanted to go down with the ship. I never really figured out how important/valid the protests were, but it was ultimately doomed to fail without a sizable chunk of people willing to walk away.

A couple of the big subs (and some smaller niche ones) are now like, passive aggressively fucking with reddit like how r/aww and r/pics are a lot of John Oliver pics (though it isn't like Reddit would even really care). Reddit fired all the mods for the subs that went NSFW to mess with reddit's ad revenue, so for the most part things are just back to business as usual.

It's not like it was ever really going to change anything, especially because there isn't really an alternative to Reddit right now like existed back when Reddit became popular. And I greatly prefer the third party reddit app to the official one, though whatever.

But yeah, it was never really going to affect anything significantly, so it shouldn't be that big of a surprise it didn't.

And why should unpaid volunteers have power over the business decisions of a company? Mods are mods, not owners or admin.

On the other hand, most of the actual work being done for the benefit of the website probably shouldn't be left to unpaid volunteers with the expectation that they'll always be willing to work for free with no influence over the company as a whole.

Like, the mods do most of the heavy lifting for keeping the site actually tolerable. if anything Reddit should be paying people for this kind of stuff.

It wasn't horseshit, that was one of the ones they responded to and eventually updated the policy for.

From what I understand the API changes kills a lot of the bots that auto mod things like hate speech and spam, making the jobs much more annoying for the unpaid mods

this Id what I was coming to say. Reddit admins made changes to allow apps that are centered around accessibility to use the api for free, and made promises about adding more admin tools to the main app and everyone broke the black out.

There's a sub out there called egg_irl that is a support spot for people who are trans or wondering if they might be trans... their mods' method of "protesting" after the initial blackout was to delete any new post that wasn't literally a picture of an egg.

The users of the subreddit were not happy. That page is a significant safe space and like minded community for a vulnerable group of people, and the mods decided "nah screw that, we're gonna shitpost."

It's been an interesting example of what happens when the mods go power hungry. The mods even once said that "we thought about doing a community poll, but we are afraid the community won't vote the way we want them to, so we didn't do it"

Last I checked the whole community is in an uproar and talking tons of shit to the mods for their power tripping.

Reddit mods are even worse (slightly) than gamefaqs mods. And reddit has been unavoidably useful, making their habits actually annoying.

Hopefully more reddit mods quit or get "fired" over this new API policy.

Never understood why losers were against the blackout just because the mods supported them. Reddit killing off their API is bad for everyone, not just mods. Apollo was the only viable way to use Reddit on a phone
