I had to play SH3 with the lights on volume down and a gamefaqs faq up on my PC at all times. Probably spent most of the game paused reading the faq over and over. Very scary game still looks great today.

Dead Space is a close second that game was scary AF to me. Basically Event Horizon extended edition.

Scariest game i have ever play is Visage. That game has every type of horror you can imagine and it does it all perfectly.

No matter how much light you have, you never feel safe.

PT's the scariest thing I ever played.

SH3's got one of the scariest parts of any game ever for me. The mirror room.

I only played Dead Space for the first time last year and was pretty shocked at how great it was. It kept the scares coming at a very impressive pace. They packed a ton of variety in there to keep you on your toes throughout. Most games are only scary for the first few hours because you grow numb to everything and get more comfortable with the combat and equipment. So Dead Space still causing some spooks hours into it was a nice surprise.

Dead Space was pretty scary when it first came out.

I don't really play a lot of scary games but the last one I played was Alien Isolation and I just couldn't continue with it. That is the scariest shit I've ever played.

Dude same. Dead space is certainly scary. The remake makes it feel even more claustrophobic and dark too. But Alien Isolation is just really spooky. I think not being able to kill the Alien along with its really unique AI make it so much more scary. I couldnt finish it either. It was just too stressful

Same here. Only game where I said..."this shit just isn't worth it". The way it moved and the incredible atmosphere was just too much. I was so flippin' tense playing that game.

Gotta go with Super Meat Boy.

There's no more visceral experience than having your success undercut by a replay compiling all of your failed attempts into one horrific display of failure. A normal game would tell you've won. Super Meat Boy dares to ask "At what cost?" As your goal is pulled from your grasp by the villain and the manifestations of your past failures begin charging forward.

The levels are all conventional horror settings. A hospital, a factory, hell and more. Most games would try to limit the player to a slower movespeed and more weighted animations, but Super Meat Boy demonstrates that frenetic gameplay loops can be used to heighten the nerves and instil panic within even the most seasoned horror game veterans.

A single hit spells doom in Super Meat Boy and it's not shy about tormenting players who quickly grow fond of Super Meat Boy and find themselves relating to his emotional struggle. Painstakingly animated scenes weaving tales of tortured souls in an unforgiving world will be the least of your anxieties in this immersive experience.

Tomb Raider 1 scared the shit out of me as a kid bad enough that i never finished it. Draw distance feels worse than SH1, enemies and traps that just *rush* you from the fog while you're in a disadvantaged position to fight back, the oppressive silence making everything a jumpscare. You go in thinking it's an action platformer but it's really the same survival horror gameplay as RE/SH.

The remake nerfed the hell out of that atmosphere

PT/Silent Hills is Hideo Kojimas take on the SH series. Its just a demo though, it was cancelled following Kojimas leave from Konami. Japanese horror tends to be more extreme and surreal and because its a short teaser, its all crammed in a short burst resulting in a pretty horrifying experience from start to finish.

It used to be available on the PS store, but it got taken down. I still have it downloaded fortunately but if the memory on my PS4 gets corrupted its gone forever.

Worth watching a play through of it since its pretty short though!!

Oh yeah ive seen that the creepy house that keeps changing as time passes yeah that was creepy

For me, the absolute scariest thing in a Silent Hill game was from the SH2 Born From a Wish scenario.

The attic. It just comes out of nowhere after all that tension building. Then right after you get to see this

Used to be even worse in the early days with the old monochrome lighting, hitscan aimbot skeletons, AI that didn't bother pathfinding safely off of high ledges, and non-stacking food.
