I probably need to just stop watching videos and reading articles about it because it just gets worse at every turn. The CEO was warned by multiple industry experts, openly dismissed safety regulations, etc... Apparently the submersible was actually rated for 3000m because of the materials used, but the CEO was basically like "Nuh-uh," and ended up getting people killed.

Ridiculous.

Those emails that came out where he was pretty much like "screw you guys, I'm going to the titanic with my sweet ass sub!" while they all told him don't do it, people will die eventually was probably the worst.

Also, YouTube has "suddenly" started recommending all kinds of sudden decompression videos of like rail cars and shit like that. Lol

Honestly, the "best" thing about this disaster, is that everyone on board probably had no idea what happened before they died.

At worst, they might've seen the window start to crack or something before it blew and basically turned them all into something resembling chili at the back of the sub.

Yea. "Best" for the tourists. Not sure about the CEO it means he died not knowing he killed everyone else and was wrong about the sub being safe.

I have a coworker of the same mind that this gets worse every time he reads something. Like beyond the rating of the materials he was reusing the subs which is a big no no for structural stability.

Sounds like a good idea. Just gotta ask yourself if knowing more about it and being upset about what you learn is actually helping anything or even has the potential to do so. If the answer is no, but you still wanna know more, that might be worth reflecting on.

That's apparently fairly common on submersibles. The first one that went to the bottom of the Mariana Trench had a cracked window pane as well.

Don Walsh (an oceanographer) later said if you hear a bang or a crack and have time to think about it, you're fine. But if the bang or crack is due to inferior equipment or poor safety, implosion is milliseconds away.

An interview with Vanessa O'Brien is an experienced "extreme explorer" who talks about her concerns with the Titan submersible.

Yeah, I think that's the part that keeps making me want to know more about all of it. I had been seeing "OceanGate" in my Google News feed here and there, but I never clicked on any of the articles. Then people started talking about it a lot once they lost contact and I still didn't know much about it. So I started reading the articles to see what was going on. There are so many stupid things surrounding this, it's nuts.

Then the conservative grifters tried to blame it's failure on being "woke" because of some statement where the guy in cutting corners made some statement about not hiring old white guys because younger, more diverse engineers could do it cheaper.

No actual proof that hiring old white guys was the original plan...
No actual proof a more diverse group was hired...
No actual proof old white guys could have done better on the same cost cutting budget and time constraints...

In reality, it was unregulated capitalism and greed that doomed those people, and that's why they have to lie to you and blame "woke" for it's failure.

He likely only did so to save cost. Along with having the tourist themselves participate in crew duty and responsibilitys. Which would save him hundreds of thousands of dollars potentially.

Frankly I'm a little curious just how profitable his business actually was if even on top of wages, maintenance, bills, etc. Nevermind whenever trips had to be canceled, refunded, and rescheduled.

So they say they worked with NASA, Boeing, and the University of Washington... This is apparently a lie.

https://www.heraldnet.com/news/boeing-uw-and-nasa-deny-design-partnerships-with-oceangate/

The Boeing Company worked with OceanGate and the UW on initial design analysis of the 7-inch-thick pressure vessel, the release read.

In a clarification added to the 2013 news release on Wednesday, the UW said, the vessel that resulted from this partnership was a steel-hulled submersible that can travel to 500 meters ( 0.3 miles) depth, named the Cyclops 1.

OceanGate refers to Titan as its second Cyclops-class submersible.
Denials of involvement in the subs design have also been issued by NASA and the University of Washington.
The space agency told an Alabama news outlet this week that it consulted with OceanGate but did not conduct testing and manufacturing (of the submersible) via its workforce or facilities.
The University of Washingtons Applied Physics Laboratory also issued a disclaimer this week.
A 2013 university news release describes a joint effort by OceanGate and the physics lab.
In a statement to The Herald on Thursday the UW said,The physics lab initially signed a $5 million research collaborative agreement with OceanGate, but only $650,000 worth of work was completed before the two organizations parted ways.

That collaboration resulted in a steel-hulled vessel, named the Cyclops 1, that can travel to 500 meters depth, which is far shallower than the depths that OceanGates Titan submersible traveled to. The Laboratory was not involved in the design, engineering or testing of the Titan submersible used in the RMS Titanic expedition, the UW said.
