You also like God of Thunder!? I played that a ton as a kid, I know it's on Steam... maybe I should give speedrunning a go

yeah! I was gonna replay it anyway so decided to check out what the speedruns were like since I know the 1st game (1st act) is pretty quick. Wonder how the other classics go though I'm sure they're a lot more competitive.

Give it a go! If you watch(ed) the run I think you'll see there's not much in it (in terms of wacky technical tricks) and I have a tonne of mistakes that need to be cleaned up. Competitive runs could be there for the taking.

That reminds me, last week I apparently found a secret named NPC encounter in a 30 year old SNES RPG that no one on the dedicated forum had discovered before.
The guy that makes gamefaqs guides for said series featured my posts in his YouTube video on the discovery, which was kinda cool.

Almost nobody knows about the 'e' glitch in Paladin's Quest... I even told a few glitch hunters about it and they, ehh.

basically, if you name Chezni anything starting with a lower case e, the game script breaks

that's pretty curious/funny, what does the game do when the script breaks?

For the most part you can't get out of the tutorial and the screen is dark, I never explored it that much back in the day to see if different letter combinations did different things

Makes me want to finish a Spyro 2 any% and upload it. I keep getting better, but it's really, really hard. Involves many frame perfect tricks, been trying for years.

Maybe speedrunners disagree, particualrly in the Adventure Game crowd which often use modded versions of ScummVM

Actually that's an interesting question now that I think about it. Heaps of DOS games ran on CPU clock speed, does DOSbox and ScummVM emulate to the fastest possible version or some developer intended version? I looked it up for like 2 minutes and couldn't find the answer right away. Probably depends game to game ig but at least with those DOSbox and ScummVM everyone's on the same playing field.

They actually do, they have to be specific versions of emulators, though.

A good emulator usually is going to be accurate down to the TAS, and old hardware is dying off anyway.

This speedrun explicitly requires dosbox, so arguing the point about emulators not counting is moot lmao

while i'd love to own a permanently setup 486 i simply don't have the room (:

For now all I have is this to trigger the good brain chemicals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhAIaykpdYU
