Solid movie. Started stupid but got good as it went. The main family was great. It was also a cinematic miracle as far as directing and cinematography and all that goes. My only thing is, was Jamie Lee Curtis Oscar win just a thank you for her long career? She was fine in this but was just a side character with barely any real screen time and pretty much anyone couldve played that role and done it the same. She didnt really have any mindblowing acting moments, she was just a crabby paper pusher.

I've seen it pretty commonly agreed that her Oscar was just to finally get her one. The actress who plays the daughter in the family should have won it over her for sure.

At first I thought Angela Bassett was just being a sore loser but nope, she has a case.

Yeah, the movie deserved many of its accolades, and Curtis was really good in it, but her win felt like a consolation.

I felt it was kinda overhyped for what it was. Like it wasn't bad, but the way people spoke of it apparently raised my expectations too high. A lot of the humor was pretty meh, and it kinda screwed with the serious bits. I did not laugh at the bagel joke.

Yeah Jamie Lee Curtis did not deserve to win that award, her performance was just a build up to jokes. Otherwise, my favorite movie of 2022 and I was glad it got recognition. Normally movies like this would easily get passed over from certain reward shows like the Oscars.

Yeah at first I thought it was just gonna be the lazy HAW HAW SO RANDOM BRO humor that so many modern movies do but as it went and they started to elaborate more on the multiverse thing and how she impacted the other versions of herself and the movie eventually having a message about what really matters in life I started to appreciate it more.

I found it stupid. Acts like its so much more than what it is but is actually very simple.

I wish someone had spoiled it for me cause it was long af.

I will say that it felt VERY long. I kept thinking that was the end and then there was more.

They couldve shaved 40 minutes off and it wouldve been just fine.

Yeah that's probably my biggest complaint, second being some random humor that didn't land for me personally, was the run time. The third act really really dragged.

Yeah it was very Marvel movie-type humor. I never even finished that, which is extremely rare for me with a movie

He should have won for Blood Diamond.

Most of the movie was pointless filler and its a simple feel good family drama

I mean wow a mom and her teen daughter not getting along and parents fighting and might divorce? Thats original!

Tell me how many movies uses the Multiverse to hammer those points in? That also explore other issues like regret, self worth, nihilism, depression, immigrant Asian American story, generational trauma, etc.

Some of the best movies we got are from simple stories. The most important thing for a movie to be good, imo, is how well it meshes all of its ideas together. IMO, EEAAO does it well, but I can understand why some people don't like it.

Been a problem for decades. Not sure where it started, but Shakespeare in Love always jumps out at me. I hear it didn't deserve it, the rightful winners were then rewarded in future awards. But the ones who got bumped for them win it next nomination. Then those who got bumped get put in line again and keeps spiraling out of control.
