If a foreign power bribed him, why wouldnt he just shut it down?

Even if he owns it, and it's privately traded, isn't there still a board of directors or someone he has to be accountable to, to some degree?

He's obviously not listening to them, but shutting down to appease a foreign country would be too much for even a board to tolerate, I'd imagine.

I don't know shit about how any of it works, but my assumption, based on my shitty opinion, is he's tanking it because it will get him tax writeoffs or something. I'm sure I'm wrong.

I don't have any actual proof, but it just makes sense.

That's like having a bank robbery, where they got a way with a million dollars, and the cops say, you know who would want a million dollars, the cashier. Think about it, she's making 20 bucks an hour, just skating by. One score is all they would need to be set for life. It all adds up, it's obvious.

I never thought Id say this but props to Zuckerberg. Pushing ahead the launch of Threads coincided perfectly with Musks data scraping mess that left twitter pretty unusable.

his net worth will be wiped out when tesla craters but him failing hard with twitter can definitely hasten that outcome. he will always be rich but in 10 years he won't be in the top 50 billionaires since tesla is artificially priced

At the behest of a foreign state, maybe not. Deliberately, though, is definitely a possibility.

Like he made up this "hyper rail" concept and rallied his army of alt-right chuds and techbro morons to circulate hype specifically to compete with - and subsequently kill - California's own plans for a comprehensive rail network to ease congestion on the roads. Like he never had any intention on following through on the idea, and he outright admitted it years afterwards. He made something up just to fuck with something he didn't like.

Dude used to talk the biggest shit about Twitter moderation and the people who ran it, and even his initial pitch to buy it was one of his slack-jawed, drooling jokes meant to feed the aforementioned tide of scum who ate up every piece of bullshit he spat out. Whether he took the joke too far and couldn't back out, or whether he was always intending to buy Twitter, I think his intention was always some variation of running it into the ground.

Like he just outright fired half of the staff one day, and it fucked the actual company up so hard that they were physically locked out of parts of the building. They had to chop down doors with a fire axe, because they doors were controlled with electronic locks and the people who maintained that system were fired for no good reason. He wouldn't let the remaining staff leave unless they agreed to stay and work for him at one point.

I think it comes down to how much of a malicious fuckface he is against how much of a drooling dumbass he is. I think he's shades of both. I think he sacrificed thousands of jobs on a personal whim, and I think what he did in the final days of Twitter was solely to entertain himself - like seriously, how does a free service benefit from limiting how much you can use it in a single day? How are you going to serve enough ads to keep the platform afloat when people can only see like 300-600 tweets a day? Twitter ran for over a decade, and it stayed afloat just fine.

But in running Twitter like a troll, Musk must be a total fucking moron. He lost billions of dollars on what was ostensibly a meme, and then he ruined it - either through outright being a total fucking moron, or for the amusement of himself and his fanbase, which only a total fucking moron would do.

Like hopefully this is the point where his numb-nuts crusaders stop seeing him as "Tony Stark's friend from Iron Man 2" and start seeing him as a shithead who spent $90 billion on what essentially turned out to be a joke, and lost over a thousand people's jobs for the sake of a punchline.

I'm accustomed to people that don't actually know anything about Tesla's valuation saying these sort of things, but let's use the impossible scenario of Tesla and Twitter announcing today they're calling it quits. All of his money from either venture is now $0.

He owns a majority stake (half) of SpaceX. SpaceX has been valued at $150B by banks and would IPO much higher. Not to mention his other assets. He would still quickly have triple digit billions in even the worst most unrealistic doomsday event.

So you either elect Bernie bros or royal clown Musk is one of our world rulers for life.

Minus his debts.

He currently has about $3b in actual money and tangible assets. That wouldnt even cover repaying the $13b he still owes on twitter.

It's true, billionaires don't keep their entire wealth in physical gold coins, Scrooge McDuck is just a cartoon. Owning companies has value that can and does translate into real money though. In his case a lot more than $10b in debt.

Agree completely. He's not an idiot, an idiot couldn't have made it as far as he did, he's just a man of average intelligence who has come to believe his own hype.

Nah hes definitely a complete idiot with a below average intelligence. We dont live in a meritocracy. Idiots who are born rich make it all of the time. Not from merit, but being born rich, lying about everything, and committing lots of fraud. Elon is as dumb as Trump.
