It seems to me that companies always discriminate in hiring people who are disabled. Especially if they are in a wheelchair.

I don't see why when they can work as good as someone who is someone who is not. Do companies really potentially want to miss out on somebody who is smart just because they are disabled?

Not to mention, what about laws that make hiring discrimination illegal?

And what, specifically, gives you this impression?

Uh all the disabled guys I know who have been unemployed for years maybe?

Those guys are as capable to work as people who aren't disabled yet employers keep passing on them for some reason

The only one I knew who made it to a decent job made it there because he has a job skill that employers want

Regular low skill jobs though? Seems they are SOL

I know there are laws that are supposed to prevent this discrimination but... Doesn't seem like it's doing much

Its an open secret that employers discriminate, to the point I wonder just how someone can actually get caught doing it. You can reject someones job application without telling them why or even responding at all, making me suspect that anyone who actually gets caught illegally discriminating is an idiot.

This is why disability is a more delicate topic than sexism in this regard. Theres no reason to discriminate based on sex, but there are some jobs that a handicapped person simply cannot do (depending on the handicap), or could do but at risk to themselves and others.

When you keep being passed over for jobs that your handicap shouldnt affect, though, thats when it gets suspect.

Yeah, literally all they have to do is...nothing lol or if they feel the need to reply, just something like "We decided to move forward with another candidate"

Yep. Always felt these anti-discrimination laws are largely pointless for this reason.

sad how there is plenty of ways to dodge that law and put disabled people in more disadvantages
