Way to filter out all of the noise you can have just the people you follow in your timeline.

The simple yet effective name "Threads" is appropriate and none of the other Twitter knockoffs have anywhere near the scale that Meta does. This thing has potential.

Having done absolutely no research and no plans to do so I'm going to assume it's running on IG servers based solely on the logo design and the account situation.

it is specifically marketed as an ig app so that seems likely imo

i created an account. seems decent. i never had a twitter account and definitely never will with musk making it an alt right shithole. threads seems ok

How quickly we forget Zuck dining with Trump as facebook's algorithm pushed people so hard into antivax alt right maga conspiracy groups they had to have an ad campaign promising to do better. While to this day guys like Ben Shapiro are the first things recommended to new accounts.

Not interested in going to Threads. I'm sticking to Bluesky Social now that I have an account there.

Hashtags, trends, the ability to curate your feed come to mind. I think it was a tad rushed, but hopefully they work things out.

As of November 2022, Mastodon has 4.5 million accounts. Only about 1 million of those accounts are active users of Mastodon.

It has many positives if you stay in a bubble of your interest. A great way to share and break news and somewhere for minorities to interact with one another and seek help when necessary.

May have to accept this is the future since everything is anti porn now. So either lose out on porn for a less toxic site or die in a sinking ship.

The mega corporations will either make people accept and embrace it or will rather kill the Internet entirely.

There's anti porn laws now, credit card companies have the final say and are anti porn, and some companies see monetary value in being as clean and sanitized as possible.

It's not a dealbreaker for me, though I would prefer if Threads allowed it.

As long as literally any search engine exists this shouldn't be a problem.

This, right here, is why I have no interest in threads at the moment. Other than the fact that none of the people I follow have moved over, that is. I dont care what a bunch of random important people are saying. I just want to see what the people/companies/topics Im interested in are saying in a chronological order.

For something they're hyping this hard and pushing (with no additional sign up step) to their existing userbase of something like 2 billion, that conversion rate is actually pathetically low.

Seems weak.

- No web browser accessibility, unlike most other social media platforms.

- Lack of features; hashtagging, chronological sorting, etc.

- No porn, unlike Twitter and Reddit.

- Being so heavily tied to Instagram isn't great. Seperate platforms should be seperate.

Honestly it's basically the "serious business; no fun allowed" version of Twitter, which I guess is useful for important posts, but it's just not on par for recreational use.

Seems like a good start. Very smooth considering the very sudden demand for a new platform.

I'm sure they'll improve and add features pretty soon. Hope it manages to overtake Twitter as the platform for this stuff just so Musk objectively fails.

30 million people signed up in the first day+ which seems incredibly strong if they can keep adding more and retain users. the rollout seems to be good which is a huge contrast to the disaster that twitter continues to be with worsening and neverending tech problems without even mentioning the cesspool the place has become

twitter has less than 400 million users, meta has 3 billion. over 30 million signed up in the first day while twitter is hemorrhaging users. twitter won't die overnight but it has been dying a slow death since musk took over. if threads continues to have loads of people signing up twitter will just continue to get marginalized faster and faster as people flock to the multiple alternatives with threads being the major one.

The meta clothing line? lol. Jk
