That's a pretty high amount for a place like Missouri. I never understood why people would live in a place that's so expensive like California when there are way better and cheaper options all over the country.

Decent paying jobs in California pay much more than 60k. If you have one you don't have to worry about this.

False. I'm in the Midwest and just took a job for about $63k and will live very well. I was already comfortable at $40k, 10 yr mortgage on my 3k sqft home is $500/mo and cars are both paid off.

If you don't care about where you live the Midwest is a lot of bang for the buck and its not bad at all. My town is small and old but it is safe and comfortable

California has better weather, schools, opportunity, better consumer and legal protections, it's one of the biggest economies on earth by itself, it's incredibly diverse, it's government isn't currently regressing 50 years, it's an amazing place for those that can afford it. Far better than Missouri.

Not all places in California has high cost of living. Mid-Cal is more affordable than Nor-Cal or So-Cal and the only places with astronomically high cost of living are in the cities like San Fran and LA. But that's the issue, living in Mid-Cal is essentially living in a fly over state most of the time.

He said it's not a tremendous amount. That is a fact. It's not a tremendous amount. It may qualify as a big amount, but still that much is arguable.

I have a little over $64 grand, and it's not even enough to acquire a foreclosure house in any state I know of.

California also has no thunder storms in many regions. That much is a luxury many people will never know.

I guess it's because of the expense involved with moving to a totally different state (finding housing, employment, the cost of moving itself, etc etc).

People who would most benefit probably are the least able to do so.

Missouri and Mississippi are two completely different places. Try not to showcase so much ignorance all at once if you can help it. Intriguingly enough, you singled out perhaps the worst state in the U.S., and then decided to use it as a comparison to Missouri.

Alabama is more like Mississippi, and even it is much better than Mississippi.

also good luck finding a decent job in Mid-Cal

theres a reason people from the valley (Fresno, Modesto, etc.) move to the big cities for work

To be fair when most people think of California, they either think of San Fran and/or LA, NorCal and/or SoCal. When it's a state that leans blue, most people mean the cities.

That's household income, not individual income. If you make 60,000 a year and your household only actually has one person, you are fine. If its a household of 2 or 3, then yeah, that is low.

One thing to consider is that, pay is generally higher in high cost of living areas. That may be a high amount for a place like Missouri, but that doesn't mean you're going to get that same pay once you move.

LOL, WTF - isn't that even worse?

This only makes the figure more dramatic. If a place like Sacramento is considered low income at 60 grand, imagine what 60 grand is considered in the parts of California that people actually care about, like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego.
