How much of our infrastructure has been updated to minimize the resulting damages it shall bring forth?

"The Big One" had been "overdue" for decades now. Who knows if a massive earthquake will actually hit in our lifetime.

And I think our infrastructure has been improved enough to greatly reduce the damage, but not enough that we'd come out unscathed.

The "bigger one" is going to tear Washington and Oregon apart, as well as the whole west end of Canada.

"It is capable of producing 9.0+ magnitude earthquakes and tsunamis that could reach 30m (100 ft)."

It is impossible to build infastructure at scale that can withstand THAT. We do not have the knowledge, material or tech.

Nope.

Unfortunately the only way we'll be prepared for it is when it happens and we rebuild after.

California will probably burn to the ground before said earthquake hits.

Part of the reason it is overdue may be due to certain regions no longer being lakes at this time. I forget the details, but sediment cores suggest that for at least most of the previous earthquakes, they occurred during a period when the lake was there (it apparently has come and gone naturally in the past).

The earthquake could trigger massive fires both urban and wild.

I'm sure. My point was California should probably be more immediately concerned with wildfires that grow increasingly uncontrollable before they worry too much about a "one day it'll all be over" earthquake that you can't predict.
