Compulsive Streamers Donation Syndrome, also called Streamers Donations Disorder, is the uncontrollable urge to keep donating to streamers despite the toll it takes on your life.
Compulsively donating to streamers means that you're willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting/improving a parasocial relationship.
Donating to streamers, and receiving a "shout-out", or personal message can stimulate the brain's reward system much like drugs or alcohol can, leading to addiction. If you have a problem with compulsive donations to streamers, you may continually donate (even though you cannot afford it), use up savings and create debt. You may hide your behavior and even turn to theft or fraud to support your addiction.
Compulsive streaming donating is a serious condition that can destroy lives. Although treating compulsive streaming donating can be challenging, many people who struggle with compulsive streaming donating have found help through professional treatment.

Activision stock hasn't really been all that great over the past few years, so this isn't anything too amazing based on the amount she put in. Overall, it was simply good. I don't know how someone can deal with the stress of putting $2MM in a single stock, though.

I put in ~$1000 a month ago or so in Activision and made out with a quick 15%.

People can drink and not be alcoholics. That doesn't take away the fact that some people DO become alcoholics.

I can sort of relate to this. A few years back (before Twitch) I was mentioned by a streamer for being one of the early viewers who tuned in just as she went live. The dopamine hit (or whatever) feeling is very real and I was really tempted to throw in some cash so she would mention me again. But my stinginess won over my simpiness that night >_>

Yes it's a thing that happens. But it has zero relevance in this discussion.

I'd be shocked if most of her donation money didn't come from addicts. Note that is not saying that most of her donors are addicts.

Streamers are similar to addictive mobile games in that the majority of their money comes from a very small fraction of big spenders and a relative trickle comes from the rest of the audience, with the vast majority spending nothing at all.

Not necessarily.

Addiction doesn't need a physical component to exist, it just typically helps.

Otherwise Gamblers Anonymous wouldn't exist.

I don't think it's going to be "most of her money" as in a sizeable chunk of her viewership, but I could certainly buy that there is addictive behavior coming from at least a few of her "whales."

That's why I specifically said "most of her donation money" and not "most of her subscriber money" and also said that most of her donors are not addicts. I'm talking about the donors that drop hundreds of dollars per day.
