Tbh I'd say most execs could be replaced by AI far more effectively than artists

Netflix et al are more interested in making billions for their share holders than paying the people actually making the shows and movies

This combined with the execs outright saying that they plan to keep this going until the workerd start losing their homes really highlight how cruel they are.

Maybe it's time workers took more than a few lessons from the French...

Hopefully they win this strike I'm 100% with them keep it up.

I know some Youtube historical fashionistas will side with the studios on the corsets issue just because it supports their view that corsets are unjustly villainized by the patriarchy. I imagine Karolina ebrowska would be one of them. Jill Bearup would be another.

there's a very minor section in the long list of requests about AI. but honestly reading this thing I suspect the AI stuff was more just a final wake up call for people rather than a massive talking point because they have tons of rather important looking requests completely unrelated to it

I doubt it. Anime is more of a niche entertainment. I don't think the majority of Americans would necessarily tune in and watch anime if more of it was shown on TV or on streaming services.

Indeed. All execs and CEOs do is number crunch for the good of the bottom line/shareholders, which is something computers/A.I. accelerate at. It would be VERY easy, more efficient and cost effective to replace execs with A.!. Save $25M a year on one dude alone.

A.I. replacing artistic talent? Not so much.

I hope you like most streaming shows being permanently deleted to avoid residual payments. The only way this makes sense IMO is to have some total percentage of streaming revenue for a service split between its shows according to views.

So you're saying according to some metric you made up streaming shows don't make enough money to pay actors for the streams but they definitely make enough to pay the executives

Streaming is incredibly difficult to quantify though. Especially since they get credit for it past a certain point. Music for example, though this isnt that, gets credit for 1 song streamed after the first 30 seconds gets played. I think actors should get paid appropriately for streaming content but whos going to judge whats appropriate?

interestingly, this extends to normal work too: your employer receives the value of your work as soon as you do it and you don't receive payment for it until the end of a 2-week period; yet your employer is not expected to pay interest

That is why they need it in the contracts the shows must remain availble for at least 50 years.

I wonder if studios are really prepared to risk the loss of fall / winter /spring season releases.

Feel like its a purposely released "leak" to pressure the strikers.

If I had a $5 monthly sub and I stream a hundred movies in that time how on earth do you break that down by actor, let alone cast and crew?
