Should the human race quit eating meat to fight climate change?

https://earth.stanford.edu/news/could-going-vegan-help-reduce-greenhouse-gas-emissions

There's been a lot of discussion as of late about how the climate change problem can be severly mitigated or stopped entirely if the human race switched to a vegan diet and gave up on meat. There's obviously some controversy here.

Would you switch to being a vegan if it meant fighting climate change?

It's one of those things that's so ingrained in certain cultures that I don't see how it would be possible to do it.

How about we stop blaming random people and have the corporations pull their weight?

We already did the individual responsibility thing back in the 90s, and if Shell was pushing for it (seeing as they invent the concept of a carbon footprint) you know its a good thing, right?

Corporations would rather have people stop eating meat entirely if it means they can continue to do their own thing without changing.

Ive got to be honest, I went vegan for a month or two earlier this year and it was hard. Not because I missed meat and animal products, but because it requires a lot of time in the kitchen and I detest cooking. If someone could show me how to make it more convenient, Id be willing to stick with it because vegan food is definitely good.

I'd love to, but I'm too weak willed to do it. It would be great for the planet--and most Americans' health--if we all went vegan.

This.
Eat more veggies, consume less meat.
If everyone who eats a lot of meat cut their intake by 20%, it'd be a huge difference.
Don't need to be extreme and end meat consumption entirely.

People are arguing that with climate change, we are at a point where extreme measures have to be taken.

Propaganda that regular people can actually make a difference when it comes to global warming is one of the most annoying things atm.

Fucks sake, 100 biggest companies in the world make up for 71% of CO2 emissions and they're pushing nonsense agendas on us that we should use paper straws and whatnot.

Global warming is real and even worse than most projections show, but as long as private jets are a thing, I don't give a fuck as an individual. I don't litter, all the electricity my home gets is hydroelectric, I don't even drive around that much and I don't even fucking smoke.

You're not taking meat from me.

Well this isn't the worst idea by far, I feel like if we could come together and stope eating meat, we could probably far more easily come together and force the major contributors to stop.

Seems obvious, yeah? The companies that produce the most are going to emit the most.

We need to be doing a lot of different things at the same time. There's no one solution that's going to save us. Our world economy is built upon fossil fuels, and our population would not have ballooned to what it is today without fossil fuels.

You could say that the corporations that produce beef are responsible for too much water and farmland usage and methane output. That might technically be true, but if everyone stopped eating beef then there wouldn't be a demand for this product. What individuals do collectively matters.

I really am getting sick to the freaking back teeth of these pathetic vegans and their hollier-than-thou attitude.

Their brains are so addled from lack of meat protein they can't think straight.

"ooh look at me I do not eat meat to help the environment"! Whoopie freaking hairy doo.

How the hell does not eating meat help the environment?

These idiotic vegans can't get it through their skulls that if everyone went vegan it would mean a lot of destroying of land to fertile that land to grow new/more crops.

It would take millions of gallons of water to water those crops.

That all those new Combine Harvesters and Tractors would be pumping absolute tons of Carbon Monoxide into the atmosphere.

More trucks taking things to market or to factories would pump even more Carbon Monoxide into the atmosphere.

There will be more factories to deal with all the more crops and they too will be using absolute tons of water.

Unless you buy fresh there will be even more plastic dumped on to the environment.

But no no these idiotic vegans do not think about things like that.

So no going vegan would not be good for the environment.
