When 90s kids reach their teens, it was the beginning of the internet. You could start to download music from mapster and lime wire. There was metacafe before youtube. And there were chat rooms with people constantly spamming a/s/l. There was MSN chat and there was MySpace.

I would think no. I remember reading plenty about it when I was still in college, and millennials in their early 20s at most were not going to be writing a lot of textbooks and articles. It probably started with gen-x, but I don't know if it was more from them self-identifying or from boomers or older talking about them.
