Blocking shouldn't exist. Ignoring was fine how it was.

The only blocks I know of are people who were wrong (about things that people shouldn't be wrong about, like human rights) and didn't like me pointing it out in an objectively defensible manner. I consider them badges of honour.

It's worthwhile in instances where somebody is making a habit of harassing somebody else, particularly if they're saying things that are objectionable enough to generate discussion (meaning simply ignoring them doesn't prevent them from maliciously derailing topics). I've never seen anyone make a topic announcing they've blocked another user they just quietly block them and move on but I've seen plenty of posters whining like toddlers over being blocked pretty sure I know who is over sensitive out of those two groups and it ain't the blockers lol

Anyone that whines about being blocked is an idiot. 100% proving the person that blocked them correct for doing so. Even passive "I would never block anyone. Its so weird that anyone would ever use the block feature" is annoying and stupid.

I mean, I guess since this site is permanently stuck in 2008 I get that the mindset might be different but the modern internet is unusable without constant 0 regret blocking. If someone even seems like they might be annoying at any point in the entire time you will use a website then you should 100% block them immediately.

Step 2: Ignored bully harasses you in topic
Step 3: Other people respond to harassment
Step 4: Topic is disrupted

Even if you can't see quoted posts because you've enabled that option (and there's plenty of reason not to, since even if you generally don't care to read what somebody has to say, taking every post that quotes them out of a conversation can be really disruptive, especially when people multi-quote), you can still see posts that respond without quoting them, which is usually enough to infer what they're saying, pluys they've still derailed your topic. Blocking them addresses the issue much more simply and with fewer unwanted side effects than any other option can, with the only downside being that they can't see anything of yours that they might want to interact with more legitimately (which there's little reason to care about).

Ignore may be enough for your needs, and that's fine, but you are not everyone and other people sometimes do actually need Block.

being able to fully block users is a great addition to the website, and if someone chooses to use it to block me then good, clearly i did something that offended them and they shouldn't be forced to see me if they don't want to.

I blocked over 200 people increasing the quality here.

I don't know if anyone has me blocked.

On one hand, I wouldn't be surprised if I was blocked, I provide nothing of value and some people block that kind of content.

On the other hand, I think I am fairly inoffensive and I am not active enough to bother blocking.

I really don't like the block feature either.

i whip out ignore/block maybe once every two years. it's a nuclear option but sometimes our interactions just soil the entire conversation repeatedly

I really only block people who are very harassing or never stop posting right wing bullshit. But mostly the disingenuous ones like Zeus who says he's a left leaning centrist while spewing right wing propaganda and misinformation.

I've been confused a couple times when I was blocked by someone I didn't remember interacting with, but I can be annoying so it's understandable.

When someone like Osmose blocks me, I take it more as a point of pride and humorous
