honestly it's all just speculation, no one really knows for sure. one time a video of mine was getting poor views, so as a guess, i assumed i had a bad thumbnail, so i tried changing it. ended up not making a difference.

that's the hard thing about youtube. there's no clear-cut way to be successful. sometimes you have to make guesses. with that said, maybe some youtubers are shady and change the thumbnail in order to make viewers watch the same video twice.

Always throws me off when Netflix does it.

I saw a video last week explaining why it's done and how often the particular youtuber does it, and I do understand why it is done. It doesn't bother me. I don't even notice most of the time because I'll only usually watch the video once anyway.

Someone had already said it before my post, but it's analytics. I would give a more specific response, but it was explained during an 8 hour TotK video, so I can't really go back through that to find it again.

It's their video, dunk. Maybe after a little more time, they just thought of a title or thumbnail that they liked better.

Apparently according to Linus, having a clickbait title and thumbnail greatly raises the view rate and then a few days later they will change both to be more reasonable.
