TLJ was the second or third BEST movie in the franchise, and did tons of great things that actually made the sequels interesting. JJ not only has a track record of beginning plot points he cant finish, but also totally shit the bed at making a satisfying conclusion to the saga.

Of course ultimately KK and Disney execs are to blame for putting money and deadlines over a thought-out story, but there is no denying RoS was the worst film in the series and totally ruined everything that was builds up to that point.

What the hell were you smoking if you think it's the 2nd or 3rd best? Plus that film shit on everything that was bringing up in TFA.

RoS is worse, but I can see how John hates TLJ. They butchered his character in it.

They really messed up his character putting him with the Asian woman and making him Poe's boyfriend

Remember when Rose tries to explain what it feels like to be captive to him, someone who was a literal slave.

Was that before or after Rose and Finn get thrown in jail for getting a spaceship parking ticket. I know it's before the climax where Rose kamikaze's her ship into Finn's ship to teach him about the power of love.

I'm trying to remember how TLJ fans say these are good plot points and make a lot of sense for the character.

The whole movie is very "White guy took Eastern Philosophy 101 to get an Asian girlfriend." There's a famous story about Bodhidharma that mimics a lot of Luke's journey, so much so it was obvious that was a bit beyond "inspiration." Rose being destroyed by love is also similar to a Taoism philosophy. All the weird shots of Rian Johnson hugging Rose's actor made me think too "Oh .... he might be one of THOSE guys."

Star Wars is supposed to be about the monomyth not just this guy's basic understanding of a couple Asian religions.

Do we really need to argue over which turd smells the worst? They're all terrible

Hmmm, I'm not sure you're doing them any favors by comparing Palpatine to one of the versions of Megatron that isn't as well liked, and I'm someone that actually likes Beast Machines

TLJ killed interest in the SW movies for me, but my interest in SW was waning anyway. It's fine though if people like it. I don't think less of people who do even if I don't get it.

There are lots of people who take their dislike of it too far, but there are legit reasons why many fans don't like it as gone over many times. There are people on the other side of the coin who act dickish too with the calling of people neckbeards, incels, and whiny because it wasn't like the EU with Goku-ish Luke Skywalker. There's also apparently a time limit of talking about one's dislike of the movie too according to several people.
