Lets be honest. The Force Awakens set up a bad trilogy. Too much happening without context, just trying way too hard to hit on all the tropes of the original trilogy. We wanted to know what happened after Return of the Jedi and what Disney told us was Fuck You, not a damn thing has changed. And instead of your favorite three characters being the heroes, heres three more that are trying way too hard to be exactly the same. So of course Episode 8 and 9 were going to be dog shit. --- My resolution - the next time the Eagles are in the Superbowl, I'm going! February 10th, 2023 ... Copied to Clipboard!

But instead of attempting to try and finagle something out of it, Rian decided to just do some bizarre experiment with subverting expectations that just didn't work at all and left little for the final chapter. Rian gets a lot of the blame for the trilogy, but a lot of the problems with the trilogy started with the first one. The movie had almost no world-building. We know nothing about the state of the galaxy in the 30 years since the last movie. It also completely undid every accomplishment from the original trilogy. It tries to establish 3 main characters, gives them almost no screen time together, and sets them up to be split apart in the next movie. And I don't know what Rian was supposed to do with Luke. TFA established that Luke went into hiding after his Jedi Order was destroyed. What good reason could he have possibly gone into hiding while the Galaxy was in crisis? Also why does RJ get all of the blame for TLJ when JJ was the executive producer? --- 20 years on Gamefaqs, and I still don't have a signature. ... Copied to Clipboard!

He ain't wrong. Son_Of_Spam posted... And I don't know what Rian was supposed to do with Luke. TFA established that Luke went into hiding after his Jedi Order was destroyed. What good reason could he have possibly gone into hiding while the Galaxy was in crisis? You don't know what Rian was supposed to do with Luke? He could done any number of a thousand things including making him go search for something that would allow him to bring back the jedi order in a new form or any number of quests. Instead Rian went with "this guy went to die on an island while his friends and family were massacred". And Rian gets most of the blame because he had complete creative control. The reason Kathleen Kennedy is to blame is because she gave him that control, and the reason JJ does get blame (he is not blameless as you suggest) is because of his shoddy world building and setup that was done in Episode 7. But the reason the blame for him doesn't go crazy is because he never planned on returning and while Episode 7 was a poor reboot with a lot of questions and no answers, it was competent enough for a non-idiot to make something good out of. Rian was not up to the task. And if you want to talk shit world building, there is none shittier than TLJ which conjures entire fleets out of thin air and declares the First Order lords of the galaxy without explaining how exactly they accomplished that after the conclusion of the previously movie. It has mind boggling bad answers for questions like "Where is the Republic fleet?" (when it even bothers to give critical answers at all), Etc. Yeah, Boyega definitely hates TLJ because of what they did to him. He was especially vicious in that GQ interview where he said it was shit and that he was happy JJ returned to fix Disney's fuck up. Daisy Ridley also started crying with joy when she heard JJ was back. So at least the main cast seemed to love him. Rian Johnson must have been a pain to work with. Unfortunately, it was too late by then for JJ to do anything but fuck it up more. I think Trevorrow's "Battle of Coruscant" end seemed way more compelling. I also never got the "TLJ was trying something different" shit. If TFA was a copy of ANH, TLJ was just a remix of TESB and ROTJ with a few things swapped around. Also as a long time sci-fi fan, the whole chase thing was such a tired old trope by then. Literally my favorite show ended with a similar premise years before, and they used that same premise several more times in the spinoffs. The whole casino thing was like a bad Doctor Who episode with two companions fumbling about with a super cringy and pointless Del Toro (who I love otherwise). --- "Fear cuts deeper than swords." ... JJ not only has a track record of beginning plot points he cant finish, but also totally shit the bed at making a satisfying conclusion to the saga. CyricZ posted... Like have you guys never heard of this thing called fiction? The handling of Leia's return to the ship in TLJ was quite odd. Firstly, despite surviving the explosion, her body was thrust out of the ship and into space, which logically should have meant that she would continue drifting away. Moreover, we see her freeze over, indicating the cold of the vacuum of space. Then, we witness her ship still moving forward at a high speed, just not lightspeed, while Leia somehow manages to use her power to halt her own motion and catch up with the ship. While having such extraordinary power is acceptable, the issue arises from this power never being addressed again in the movie. If she possesses such abilities, it seems odd that she doesn't utilize them in other critical situations, like facing down adversaries. The speed that she has to be going to do with would be beyond the speed of sound . She is moving like Quicksilver. --- "Big Sweaty Otis" -Titus O'Neil ... Copied to Clipboard!
