For fans of being outraged over eminent domain. A resident of Aldine, Texas may soon lose his home--not for a bypass road--but so that the local school district can build a parking lot for the high school football stadium.

Frankly if the local school district were building a football stadium adjacent to my home, I'd want to get as far away from there as possible, but is still sucks for this family.

They get offered whatever the city/school deems a "fair" appraisal, which is pretty much always going to be a scam. Whenever government or schools are involved in stuff like this if they're not offering you at least a million then you should be telling them to fuck off.

Eminent domain means they are incapable of telling them to fuck off.

My high school had a very nice football field and locker room while we had to use crummy computers and books for class. Not long after I left they spent tons of money returfing the field or whatever they do. You hear tons and tons of stories just like that. Like religion, I'm starting to think sports does more harm than good at least in America and on the school level.

Ah, don't remind me. And the bad part is that we don't get reimbursed come tax time, the limit is like 200 bucks (I blow through that within the first month of school). I had to buy my own copy paper all last year.

We sure do have nice state of the art stadiums across the state worth 30, 40, 50+ million dollars though

US Baseball stadiums used to be integrated into the neighborhoods they were in (not to this insane extent though). Fenway Park has really weird dimensions because of how it was built into the neighborhood.

Building a parking garage sounds more expensive than a flat lot built on suspiciously cheap "market value" land that the stubborn owner was unwilling to part with though. Surely that sort of solution would not be the best use of taxpayer dollars which would be better directed to other ends.
