Really good movie on Netflix released at possibly the worst time. Check it out. Copy and paste of my Letterboxd review (no real spoilers): There tend to be two types of Netflix movies - Oscar bait and genre flicks. The former are often really good, while the latter are typically quite forgettable. This includes their attempts at big budget style action or sci fi movies. Barring the occasional Extraction release, most just aren't very good. They Cloned Tyrone is an exception. It is a crazy ass blend of mystery, comedy, science fiction and social commentary, with an old school veneer of blaxploitation. I don't want to talk about details too much to avoid any spoilers not inherent in the title itself. I will say that Jamie Foxx is having the time of his life playing a flamboyant, playboy pimp with a heart of gold. I guess that is better than the cliche of a hooker with a heart of gold, but the movie has one of those too. (And a drug dealer with a heart of gold). I think some cliches are to be expected with this kind of throwback film. Too bad they released this the same weekend as Barbenheimer, as it may not get its chance to shine as much as it should. Also, all the best to Jamie Foxx. Hope he is doing well and will continue to strive for decades. --- Currently playing: taking a gaming break after Final Fantasy XVI sucked the life out of me ...
