One episode a week, so no binging which makes one of the jokes in the episode pretty inaccurate.

Not as good as the classic episodes, but still had some great gags in it. I'm glad Futurama is here. I honestly didn't remember how the last series finale ended, or that Calculon was still dead, so the continuity got me a bit lost.

That said, Fry's voice is REALLY rough. I know Billy West is older, but his Professor and Zoidberg voice still sound fine, so it's kind of weird.

Genuine question: should I watch the last two(?) seasons they did before watching this? I watched the specials and a bunch of the first of those post-cancellation seasons but not all of it.

Yeah if you want. In futurama theres more good than bad.

There are a lot of criticisms of the Comedy Central episodes, but honestly I think there was more good than bad in it. Lots of great jokes and fun episodes in the run.

The thing that sets Futurama apart from The Simpsons is that even when Futurama gets super weird and cartoony and overfocused on silly humor than strong writing it still works just because that's in the nature of the show in general.

I thought it was a really strong first episode.

The professor cutting off Leela's hair and then yelling at her that it was just a metaphor got the biggest laugh from me

Surprisingly the thing that made me laugh the hardest was the really low-key line where Fry casually mentioned he was "catching up on his reading".

I want to watch it. Do I have to have seen the previous two iterations to enjoy the new one?

I thought the show died back in like...2016.

No hating. Admire the dedication to keep it going.

I'm going to be honest, this is definitely me being cynical, but 5 minutes in they've thrown the Hypotoad up on screen in what feels like such a "reference for the fans, we're still hip!" moment that I'm immediately turned off. Will keep going though.

10 seconds later they've already started making 3rd wall braking jokes about Hulu and I'm like....it's just so low effort. This is not a joke a confident team makes right off the bat. I didn't even like when they made the Fox jokes in the first place way back when.

I really hated that.

Hopefully it's just the first episode wanting to get all these types of jokes out of the way but that was just horribly unnapealing. I'm going to give it one more episode to win me over.

As far as Hulu reboots of cancelled animated series goes, this was maybe 1/4 as good as that first new Animaniacs episode.

the hypnotoad made me laugh. the whole meta stuff didn't work for me, agreed, which is sad because it did kinda work at the beginning of the CC episodes. in general the show feels closer in quality now to disenchantment than OG futurama, which isn't too surprising.

why should it be a trainwreck?

Disappointing first episode that focused too much on fourth wall breaking jokes. Hopefully the rest of the season is better.

I watched the trailer and a lot of the references felt too on the nose to be funny, but I thought that was the case with the first reboot, too. I'll probably pass on this.

Episode 2: I was NOT expecting them to actually follow through 20 years later on that episode. That's actually kind of incredible. Also, Amy must be like 40-something now? That's really weird to think about.

Zapp's voice, like Fry's, is kind of rough. But still had some good lines. I like his insistence that the gifts he bought were "large".

I noticed they changed Amy's Dad's voice. Not surprising I guess.

this episode (2) was way better. not always sharp, but less bland for sure.
