They sit there, stare, people assume, due to lack of communication, that they are ignorant little whelps. I disagree. I think they are sophisticated and deep thinkers, constantly contemplating their role in society.

I've read they don't even remember most of what they experience for more than a day or so unless it's something they had an extreme emotional reaction to or is reinforced through repetition.

About half an hour ago, Simba thought he was going to die because it was about 5 minutes past his usual feeding time (I was sitting on the balcony). Definitely deep thoughts going on about life and death

Cats have an extremely long short-term memory of about 16 hours.

So individual, one-off actions only stay with them for 16 hours. But they will learn repeated interactions.

Just as well. You don't want him to start ordering food online with your credit card while you're out of the house. My cat used to download craploads of porn using my card. (That's the official story, and I'm sticking to it.)

I've seen it in numerous different articles, though I don't have any on hand. And the musical makes searching "Cats memory" rather unproductive.

But feel free to inform me otherwise, ideally with something more than "no, your wrong".

Even mice have the ability to remember things on the order of at least days without it being operant or classically conditioned. Look up the novel object recognition test.

People just say things like this because they simply don't understand the underlying behavior of the animal by watching them and so they ascribe a lower existence to them.

so they are basically like us then, seriously do you remember every single thing that happened to you yesterday? or do you just remember the most important things of that day? what about the day before that? and what about the day before the day before that?

I know some people who'd probably try to eat it after a couple of days rather than cook, if they couldn't order food online.

I couldn't find the thing I originally read. It may have been wrong. When I searched it I didn't find a lot of great sources but I'll share what I found.

https://www.livescience.com/58602-do-cats-dogs-have-long-term-memories.html
https://www.dailypaws.com/cats-kittens/behavior/cat-psychology/do-cats-remember-people

What I'm getting from these is that cats are good at remembering things that are related to their survival, like memories involving food or involving people they've directly interacted with. Other things aren't necessarily going to stick with them as well. The first article also notes that it depends on the age of the cat as well.

I mean, that's the world's smallest cat, the black-footed cat. Also one of the most efficient hunters out of all wild cats. So yeah, that mf gonna think about murder a whole hell of a lot.

Also, yes, super cute.

They are little African Cats.

Probably from the same lineage that helped us store grain, and you know, build societies!!

I can tell you that and my room has a bad little kitty.

I shoo and chase it away because I don't want to mark its territory on my stuff. Like my TV in the living room. Anytime it would sneak up there it would run away too its hiding spot. However when it lays on the couch, she barely moves, because that's my friends couch.

Cats are definitely affected by death beyond knowing when their time is almost up. One of my cats went lethargic and lost weight for awhile after the cat she grew up with died. I'm not sure if death is something they can anticipate happening to them very early on, but it can affect them mentally
