I feel a tv show format would be easiest, but the last part of the game might be hard, if not, impossible, to capture. The end of the first cycle just seems like a natural season finale. I guess, the part I'm struggling with is how to do the ~~interactive 4th wall break by Monika~~ at the end justice. If the show doesn't capture that feeling that the ~~viewer is now a character~~ in the show, beyond a cheeky 4th wall wink, it just won't fully capture it in my eyes. I think you can do a fairly straightforward type adaptation, however to do the final twist at the end, I would change the animation style into a rotoscoping type thing and turn it into a single-cam thing. Have her "pull" the camera to her and keep it on her. Have her comment on knowing she is in an anime, and my god if you can somehow program it in, have her read your account (let's say it is on Netflix) and have some banter set up about certain shows that you watched. "Oooo, you watched Stranger Things? I bet you it would be something that Natsuki really enjoyed. I would say this is just an experience that uses the typical VN world to be able to effectively tell its story. I knew the broad genre before I played it, but didn't know anything about the game, so going in blind really made it a treat to play. I heard of "Just Monika" but again, had no knowledge about the game. Don't really know how to describe the premise without spoiling some things. The only thing I could say is to play it, and if you find the story to be "cringe" or "of course some weirdo on the internet would rec me an anime waifu vn"-like, to at least play until the major turning point happens. You will know that point when you reach it. Then play like 10 minutes past that to get a taste of what it really will turn into. I don't like games that can only provide "waifus" and I would argue this game is not that. It won't take all too long to get to that part as well. Man, that was partially what I was thinking. It would be cool if somehow she could "infect" your shows you try to watch until you "beat" her too, but that is something that we are far from being able to do, haha. I was thinking of how you capture that feeling of being "trapped" where you can't rewind/fast-forward/go back to previous episodes (and if you try to pause, she lets you know that you can't escape her even on the pause screen), and I think if it's on a format like Netflix, surely there would be a way to actually mimic that. In terms of escaping purgatory, now that, I don't know. I just would take issue with the viewer "escaping" her by just... letting the show run normally. Feels against the spirit of the game. In terms of keeping you there, a randomly generating A.I. algorithm that loops like the game, playing a random clip of her saying something doesn't feel out-of-the-realm-of-possibilities. ~~Of course, this is just me dreaming.
