Honestly, the sooner shit gets back to pre-pandemic levels, the happier everyone will be. Aside from the corporate overlords, but fuck them. The more companies hit with plunging profits the better.

Shilling out $1000+ on a phone every year gets played out quick.

I have one of their older cheaper phones from 2017. It's just now showing its age.
Idk what "showing its age" is supposed to mean in this context but any phone they released in 2017 hasn't seen a software update in like 4+ years >_>

That's the only downside is the updates, and the big problem with forced obsolescence. I typically buy cheap phones for that reason, honestly--you're looking at 2~4 years support tops even in the best cases. I've got a six year old phone that still does everything just fine from a technical standpoint, but it doesn't update any more. I don't really drop or break my phones so it's still in perfect condition too--it just got the point that I could no longer use applications on it because fuck me I guess.

The entire smartphone industry is scummy as fuck and probably one of the most anti-consumer things I've ever seen.

I'm doing my part, I just replaced my 5 year old s9+ with a s23 ultra. So far I'm happy with it.

The fact that half a billion dollar profit is seen as bad news is what is wrong with capitalism.

Basically every tech company is seeing a big fall in profits, because you know, people actually want to do more than pay for tech when they can go outside or travel.

Samsung isn't just a "tech" company though.

If they learn how to make nodes as good as TSMC, I'm sure those profits will go back up.

In your own link, Samsung attributes the profit loss to smartphone sales decline.

And yes, Samsung might be basically Korea at this point, but I think the point still stands. It just doesn't really matter since Samsung is one of those too big to fail companies right now.

They discontinued the Note, got rid of micro SD slots on the phones.

Their tablets are excellent, but I'm probably not getting another Samsung phone after my Note 10+ kicks the bucket.

yeah i still have the note 20 ultra. i always really liked the note series but samsung has major issues with the charging ports on their galaxy phones so i am planning on getting a pixel 8 pro in october when they drop. the pixel fold is interesting but i don't think i am ready to get a foldable yet
