I'm gullible enough to trust easily and I've had a hard time feeling like I'm really "in love" to the point where it's been a detriment in multiple romantic relationships

When you love someone, youve gotta trust them. Theres no other way. Youve got to give them the key to everything thats yours. Otherwise, what's the point?

Trust of course.

Let's say I'm buying coffee at Starbucks. The cashier told me my total is $3.50 and I can get discount if I have a Starbucks member card. I have no reason to distrust them.

A lot of people don't understand how fundamental to daily life trust is. Raka is on the right track here.

Like take into account driving. Just by being on the road, you're trusting the people around you to not be bad drivers. If someone were driving erratically, wouldn't you try to away from them? And how regularly does that happen?

Trusting a person to do a thing is not the same as trusting a person

Yes I trust some dude at Starbucks to make my coffee
No I don't "trust them" as a person

It's on the same level or even more intense than your example tho. People legit get married from instant feelings like that.

Driving is a much better example cuz all the other hundreds or thousands of drivers you interact with could easily kill you in 10 seconds if they chose. Starbucks dude could mess up the drink or the price and it doesn't really matter, so no trust is really required.

That said driving does not have trust by default. When you see a driver following the rules that you feel are appropriate, you give them trust, and the slightest mistake will lose the trust forever.

If you don't trust them, why would you give them your money? Maybe they're a crazy psycho that makes coffee out of grave dirt after all, and they'll use your money to donate to terrorist organizations.

I trust them to make my coffee, but it's more trust in Starbucks to fire them for making grave dirt coffee.

I don't know nor care what they'll do when they get a paycheck. I have no trust in them beyond making coffee I order.

Here's another hypothetical for you raka

You're in a prison
You walk by a prisoner's cell who was a convicted serial killer
You trust the prisoner is not going to murder you and feel safe enough to walk by the cell

Do you trust them? Sounds a lot like the coffee thing to me.

No. But there are different levels of trust. You didn't specify that you were talking about trusting someone with your secrets. You just asked about general trust.

I feel safe enough because that thing is in a maximum security cell. I'm not trusting the monster, I'm trusting that the prison would be up to the task of keeping it contained.

This poll is also asking about people. Serial killers are not people.

Depends on the definitions / sincerity of trust and love.

You can say you can't really love somebody without trusting them, and I would agree with that. But in practical reality people very much believe they're in love without it.

Likewise trust could be a small thing or a big thing. I trust an uncountable amount of things to do what I expect them to do, but the idea of trust in a person as in to more-or-less always believe in them? I don't think I've ever had that.

This is also a fair point. Do I believe I am in love more often than I actually am in love? I'd think my history on that is pretty well-documented.

I don't think there are many people who can truthfully say otherwise for themselves. Infatuations can be very strong and people very much want to love their partners.
