https://www.gematsu.com/2023/07/gust-to-announce-new-atelier-title-on-august-8

Will be in a (Japanese, obv) livestream on Tuesday, August 8. 5am Pacific time, 8am Eastern.

I really hope they go back to each installment in a sub-series having a new protag. Though we won't know that until much later, anyway.

What street? Is it a nice, reliable street? Because I finished the Dusk series not long ago for the first time and I'd KILL for a new one.

Never played one, but they look interesting and not just for the "waifu" stuff... I mean I like cute anime stuff but there's enough of that out there.

Can anyone tell me what games they are similar to?

I assume Rune Factory and harvest moon?
Maybe some monster hunter for the crafting?
Xenoblade Chronicles?
Disgaea?

Basically, country bumpkin girl shown magic trick. She loves magic trick. Gets person who showed her said magic trick to teach her. Repeat that half a billion times and you have your Atelier games.

I guess...none of them? The closest would be RF/HM in terms of the comfy feeling I get playing each one. There's no farming, it's purely crafting in your alchemy pot and each game has a different alchemy system. There's plenty of combat but it's turn-based, and not that hard difficulty-wise. Unless you go beyond Normal mode and do optional endgame bosses, then your ass can be blown off.

What I get out of them is yeah, it's cute anime stuff, but I really enjoy how they're written like they're slice of life in game format with addicting crafting and great music to back it up. I've enjoyed the cast of each game, some more than others, and it's nice as years go by between installments in a subseries so you see them all grow.

Thanks, that's pretty helpful.

Do you get to find unique equipment, build skill trees, explore dungeons and magical forests and stuff? Or is it pretty much on rails plot driven with some crafting?

I would love an atelier game more like the Iris trilogy, but they've done their best to swerve away from that, it feels.

Its on rails plot driven in the fact that areas open up as you go through the story, but in most you end up spending way more time gathering, crafting, and do side stuff than you do advancing the plot. While I mainly play them for the plot and characters, the crafting is the main focus.

Like others said, pretty much. One thing I don't think we've stressed about crafting yet is just how much variety there is with what you can add to items and how. For a mix maxer there are traits to desire above others (should be ignored until endgame) but there's a lot you can do with making your own equipment.

Depends on how you feel about time limits. If you're fine with it, honestly I recommend Rorona. If you don't want time limits, then Sophie.

Time-limits-but-generous I'd recommend Dusk: Ayesha/Escha & Logy/Shallie. The first two I had tons of time left over at the end and Shallie got rid of time limits entirely.
