Granted he's changed from then, both mentally and physically, however I vividly remember when Rand Paul tried damning Trump for "giving money to Dem politicians" and Trump casually shot back with, "I've given plenty of money to you, Rand". Trump's GOP debate performance is a big reason he gained the lead he did amongst their base. I think it will be much easier for him to cope with a fact-free debate environment centered around worshipping him, his presidency, and his policies, than a general where he has to respond to facts and criticisms levied against him.
