I will say gamefaqs auto collapses all links except for the first one it will show a full preview, for me. I don't screw around with settings much anymore unless something truly pisses me off.

I feel like who did posts all those links did do it in bad faith though.

Define die. There's still a lot of good rock music being made and every now and then it even pops up on the charts. I think the overall level of quality has gone down, but that's probably because it's pretty easy to self produce an album and distribute it, so there's a lot more chaff. Someone earlier also said that people forget just how much awful music has been forgotten by time and that's totally accurate.

What is gone is any cultural impact. This I think is because so many rock bands are just really boring. It's not enough to just make good music, you need to entertain too. Rock has forgotten that. Hair metal was super cheesy, but it was fun and had some absolutely killer songs. Nu metal gets memed on, but bands like Slipknot (lumped in with nu metal) and Limp Bizkit put on crazy shows and set trends. Hell Fred Durst was a literal pop icon who hung around with Britney and Christina at the heights of their careers. Most modern rock artists aren't anywhere near that.

I know which music I prefer to play and would prefer to make, but I also know which shows I'd rather see today.

I never really respected hair metal because I thought it was just too cheesy and was made literally to get laid. Not much else.

I kinda hoped at least one other person on CE said they like Covet and like Mathrock. Didn't think I was that much of a hipster.

Isn't this town needs guns math rock? Or just ttng now. There is another band I thought was kinda good but can't remember their name.

Yes. They toured with Chon and Polyphia a few years ago.

I heard of Chon. Neat to see ttng is still around.

As someone that actually enjoys hair metal, you are completely correct, especially that it's not really a genre worthy of respect for the most part.

I just recently found out about covet due to them getting a song in Rock Band a month or two ago.

Normally I don't care much for instrumental music, but "lovespell" is among my favorite new music this year

Nice, there was a lot of good stuff I saw in that long list of videos.

To me, rock is as dead as you're unwilling to broaden the terminology. Nothing that sounds like AC/DC (which is one of the first bands I can remember thinking of when I thought "rock" before getting more into music) is gaining much traction right now. However, I think there is still a strong market (albeit much less profitable thanks to streaming, though I wouldn't ever want to go back to the old format as a consumer) for songwriting that starts from a group of musicians without reliance on recent advanced technology, fancy producers, or non-human musical components like drum and synth samples. Not to mention that much of modern country (and pop I presume though I really haven't heard much at all from the charts lately) take very strong influence from the pop-rock that over the years we have internalized as just being normal sounding music.
