I often think about offing myself in a grand manner.. like hanging myself from the rafters of a grocery store.

But I'm not where near the point of doing that as I do have hope that things will get better.

You would think it would not be as bad as the covid lockdown year...but its becoming clear that the worst weather, the inflation, and more is really starting to screw pepole over.

Pepole really have been trying to make light of the state of things but its becoming clear that a good chunk of the nation is overworked and underpaied and outright misrable, the " Elite" is making everyone else just about unable to have time for a life so they can go on acting like gods...

You can talk about suicide, I just dont think you can imply your own intentions. But there might be wiggle room between that and outright threatening to do it. Thats why I thought Id at least let you know.

They wont lower the prices for stuff and an entire generation realized that while we were certainly expected to work hard, our fair pay, medical care, and retirement was spent on a manufactured war to generate non-stop revenue for war profiteers.

Now, a $50k salary turned into $15/hr and a $150k house now costs $550k, and also requires six figures of repairs. We are a generation who has to rent instead of knowing the maturity milestone and the dignity of homeownership. We are a generation who is so tight-pressed for money that many of us cannot even entertain the idea of having a family one more dignity taken away and every politician either ignores these things or outright says they want to make it worse.

And the icing on the cake? Some of us have (boomer) relatives calling us fucking lazy for it. Or worse, entitled.

I copped that shit from both my father and uncle for years. Guess what? Both conservatives. One was a huge fan of GWB (estranged since 2015 so no idea what he thinks of Trump) and the other is a current fan of Trump and Australias One Nation party.

Luckily my mother isnt like that.

Yah...it feels like its not quite as bad as the extreme inflation of Germany between World War one and 2 but its clearly getting to a point where things are going to collapse if nothing is done, it feels like its going to require that kind of drastic action to reduce prices, because things were so unlivable then and its getting to that point now, double so with AI replacing so many jobs.

In a way you're right. I starting out in the early 90's i was able to afford things that now are 3x as much. It's why right now I'm in a holding pattern to see where I want to go. A small town vs a large city. The market is totally different. I have no connections to speak of. I'm a stranger in a strange land. I like a sure thing, to have it planned out. This is compounded with life events from the past 3 years. Having 2 close friends die in 18 months that were huge parts of my life. Almost 3 years ago to the day I could have been part of this statistic. The 2nd friend pulled me up and I promised to help her even though I knew the outcome. Getting ill after her passing was a even horrible thing to happen to me. But now I'm in a good place. I'm getting things put back together. I'm ok as far as personal wealth to hold on for another year to get my ducks in a row. After that watch out! Lmao. Sadly the farming side of my business I can no long do.

Not just a lot... Practically 80% of the suicides were male in 2022. Male suicides made up 79.4% of the suicides.

According to the CDC, the exact number was 49,449, and females made up 10,194 of that.

It would be nice to be able to get some kind of census as to what factors drive these suicides, but of course, you cant exactly question them. Is it finances? Depression stoked by lockdowns? Being forced back to work afterward? Long term effects of Covid?

Its sobering isnt it? As a kid I saw death as the sort of thing that happened to elderly relatives. Not my contemporaries.

Just grief and stress for me. I despaired knowing I was at a crossroads and one path was closed to me. I had 2 other choices but one was just holding off the inevitable. I took that choice for 2 reasons kindness and guilt. And having to grieve a 2nd time, then get ill after for a year. I'm in a better head space for some reason. I still have the medical issue but it's something I can live with. Plus it's still working on getting back to normal after 15 months. I have no worries. When it's time to make my move. I'll be ready.

To get some insight on a similar situation read Jeffs posts here. I think he's going to be ok

Our capitalist system would make assisted suicide legal so HMOs could make money off the epidemic. They'd offer end of life packages where suicides are performed by their network of doctors for an inexpensive price. For a discount, customers can sign over their organs to the hospital.

It's not surprising that it's males in their mid 30s to 50s. This would have been the prime demographic to have served in Republican Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, only to return to an economy wrecked by Republicans with no hope to build net worth, while the Republicans have worked hard to decimate access to the help OP is encouraging people to seek.

IIRC attempts are about equal between sexes, but males for a lack of a better terms are more successful.
