Hooked on a feelin

One is more fun, three is more emotional. They're both iconic in different ways.

I'd have to rewatch 1 again since it's been awhile so 3 would get my recency bias, but it might still edge out 1 even factoring that out. Not 100% sure though.

If i just wanted a fun movie 1.

If I want emotions tugged at 3.

I think i lean 3 overall.

1 beats 3 because less MCUification.

Two excellent movies though.

3 has Mantis

Nebula is fantastic in 3 and she's still only okay in 1. She develops so much over the MCU and it adds to the payoff of that movie.

I honestly can't think of a single thing I like better about the first movie. All the characters are better, the plot is better. I guess it doesn't have Yondu that's a drawback.

GotG1 deserves some credit for having nothing to start with and building a really cool world and charming cast, but I only really feel like GotG3 uses movies from its own series as a crutch it's not really overly MCUified so you know, building on the series and using the character developments has value too.

yeah I said it in the last topic but I really love how 3 really culminates the development of all the characters the series has brought us

GotG1 was about bringing most of them together, so GotG3 really gives us something that really feels like a team and everyone's at their best, and with a fuller cast than 1 had

and then again like I mentioned last time 3's antagonist blows 1 completely out of the water

I truly don't like anything about what they were forced to do with Gamora in this movie because of IW, it's the main thing that really holds me back, and it's not really this movie's fault.

I know the scene in the elevator is there to shit talk how this stuff had to be shoehorned in outside of Gunn's control, but like....it still happened. Making fun of it doesn't mean it's not still there.

Also with Guardians 1 and 2 you still feel like you're watching 2 movies in a Trilogy. That's no longer possible in Guardians 3, you are officially out of contained trilogy territory and are officially in "part of something else" territory.

To me it's still fairly self contained.

Yes Gamora died and came back in Infinity War but functionally she may as well have died offscreen. The story you're telling doesn't need the details of how or why she died and came back, just that she did-- because the focus isn't on the old Gamora it's on Quill coping and the new Gamora. (Who you can extrapolate from GotG1)

It's all pretty easy to understand for purposes of the movie. It's not delving into "who is this guy" "why is this guy doing this" blah blah because the first bit of the movie is Quill going on a depressed bender and you can figure it out from there. It's not really standard MCU fare at all.

I went with 1 but it's really close. Both right up there among mcu movies.

My issue isn't that it's hard to understand, it's that there's are major events in these character's lives that happen in movies that are part of a different series.

So really this is me just dumping that I am super over the whole crossover universe situation. The best comic book movies of the last several year have been self contained IMO.

This is no different than Terminator 1 vs Terminator 2 or Godfather 1 vs Godfather 3 or whatever else.

Not every sequel needs to be located directly after the last.

It's a different medium, I desire different things from them!

Most of the best comics are self contained too, though. I've pretty much stopped reading event comics on the whole and I usually skip books when they're doing crossover.

Guardians 3 is like 95% a self-contained movie (or at least contained with the Guardians series). Complaints about it being held back by the wider MCU don't hold water to me.

Also you could definitely watch all three of these movies on their own and not feel like you missed much if you didn't watch any other MCU movies
