The guy was really nice. Actually had a section where we spoke Japanese and he said he was surprised with my speaking ability since I put "Basic Japanese" on my CV. Apparently I was beyond what they expected on that part.

Will be hearing from them hopefully next week. If I get either of these jobs I will be moving to Japan next year, if that happens, fuck yeah!

Till then I should be going on holiday to Tokyo next month. If I don't get these jobs it'll be back on the grind to applying for more jobs there until I get one.

This one was the standard ALT. The one last week was IP Law firm.

I'm hoping if I don't get the IP law firm, I can still work as an ALT to get my foot in the door. After the year is up I can find another job for a proper Visa. Applied to a lot of law jobs, and a few of them got through the application, but these were my first interviews.

Yeah I want to visit one more time before moving. I absolutely loved Tokyo back in 2019 and all I've been doing since then is dreaming about visiting again then finally living there.

I went to Tokyo for the first time this year, but will be going back. Considering spending Christmas there.

You gonna move into one of those small size tiny apartments/townhomes I keep watching videos about all the time? Haha

I wouldn't mind lol. Although I've seen some apartments my friends have shown me in Kyoto, those look much bigger than what you get here in London.

Hell even the apartments in Tokyo would be better than what you could afford in London now.

Does going from working in law in the US to working in law in Japan not essentially require relearning your entire profession?

Hes just said that hes coming from London, not the US. The gist of the question still stands though, I guess.

If you end up living there, its also a great springboard to explore other places in Asia.

You're right. My position in that law firm would mostly be a paralegal/admin position, especially since I won't have a grasp on Japanese law.

Look at the time stamps, he posted less than a minute before I did.

Is that part of the plan, to get a starting position and learn Japanese law? Or is that just the best avenue you have to a decent paying first job in the country and then moving on to something else?

I'd prefer to learn Japanese Law, but that's a huge undertaking. I'd rely on working with the firm first whilst leaving open my other options.

Becoming a full on Lawyer in Japan is extremely hard however. I've heard stories akin to nightmares about their exams, so for a foreigner like me who barely has a full grasp on the language, it'll take years. Something that doesn't seem doable unless I really commit to it.

Yeah a lot of them I've seen can be tiny, but some are really great for someone living alone. But if you're going with someone you definitely wouldn't want to do some of those as a couple, but they're very cozy when decorated & set up right

Getting a law degree really didn't have anything to do with my aspirations for Japan. That was a long time ago and I had different things in mind at the time lol.

The trial conviction rate seems to be true from what I've seen so far.

Thing about Japan is that it's basically been stuck in a recession since the bubble economy crashed in the early 90s, and prices never really went up. Some stuff is stupidly expensive but other things like rent and basic restaurant food might surprise you.

I taught English in South Korea for 5 years, went to Japan I think 5 times. Okinawa was my favorite place though it's not much like the rest of Japan. Kyoto and Hiroshima are great. I ate all the sushi and went to all the Yakuza game locales in Tokyo and Osaka.
