Decided to tell the wife im sick and tired of the beach resorts already. Wanted to go to the Bahamas next year and I told them im done going to beach resort vacations

and I refuse to go and would just rather stay here and work if they dont want me to have a say on anything in regards to what vacation we should have as a family

In most circumstances, I'd say no... and though I'm not a family man, I feel you on not wanting to go to beaches and all that. Not a fan of sand, humidity, etc. and the one time I got to go to the ocean, I was in it for all of five minutes because I'm scared of a jellyfish. People get scared of sharks but some very deadly jellyfish are near invisible.

NOOOOOOOOOOPE.

If this is a serious post, you sound pretty petty with your family tbh. If you love them, you should appreciate the time you have with them rather than declaring you refuse to go on vacation with them like a child.

Crap I didnt even think about the jellyfish.

That just gives me more reason on to why I dont like these kind of vacations

Beach resort vacations already werent my thing in the first place. I prefer touring cities, visiting historical sites, trying out local restaurants, checking out events in the city, etc.

Much better than sitting poolside at a beach resort or swimming at a swimming pool

this is a serious post

I already did vacations thats all about them 3 times already. Not once did I get a say on anything I want to do on the vacation because the wife decides everything and Im always forced to do whatever they want and half their shit is boring.

I dont like hanging out in swimming pools, laying on the beach, building sandcastles, and all. Its not my thing.

Why can't he pick where to go on one vacation, though? It sounds like TC never gets to pick. Alternating where to go seems like the best option.

thats what I keep telling my wife. at least let us alternate and pick.

The answer I keep getting told is:

Its not about what you want. its about what the family wants

thats why I decided to tell them im not going and they can go themselves

I think you're acting like a small child, to be honest.

Go to the Bahamas. If you're so determined to have no fun yourself, at least take pleasure in the fact that your family is having a good time.

If you can't even manage that, they're probably better off without sulky misery guts casting a shadow over the holiday.

I'm with tc. You should be able to sit out.
A vacation should be a vacation for everybody. Something tells me someone is getting exactly what they want.
Some people don't understand we enjoy different things.
As of this year, the lady and i have stopped trying to take all of our trips together. She really likes to travel and please people, whereas I find that all exhausting and I love being home. Plus, traveling is expensive!

We don't have the issues you guys have because my wife and kids like doing the same stuff I do so for me it really sucks that they are going on these vacations I'd like to go on but can't.

LOL at people taking TC seriously.

His two gimmicks are whining about his family, specifically vacations, and bitching about poor people.

The family may very well not even be real considering I'm pretty sure TC is Scion, unless he finally found those connections he was looking for.

Oh yea, I get 2 weeks of vacation a year that we all do something as a family but my wife essentially has 2 months of PTO that she uses to take the kids on extra vacations.

Personal space yes. Not helping taking 2 elementary aged kids on an international trip is a completely different extreme.

Maybe its a bad destination and yall can find a place you agree on.

Ah yes. The 'Taking and paying for a vacation so you can let your wife relax' special.

If it its what the FAMILY wants, OP is part of that family and should have a say. OP should also be allowed to send them on said vacation without OP, save some money, enjoy their time off work, and relax.

Does the family want that? There's a big difference between 5th grader and kindergartner, but in general traveling alone internationally with 2 small children has a lot of potential of being stressful as fuck. If she's cool with it then that's good for their family. Do the kids really care about being in the Bahamas or would they be happier in a cheaper place where the whole family was together? There's nothing inherently wrong with the dad not traveling with them on vacation if that's what the family wants. Is it what the entire family wants?

See, I think we're on the same page here.

Thing is, based off what I read it seems like OP isn't getting a say and anytime they try to change it, it becomes "We took a vote and you lost". If they're old enough to vote, they should be old enough to stand on their own. If they can't stand in their own, they can find something to enjoy. Maybe OP can spend some time looking into kid friendly stuff to do for his destination- but it sounds like his suggestions are never even considered.

Of you aren't being considered into the vacation, you shouldn't have to attend.

I mean yeah, if you are a family man then yes you will need to prioritize your family over your selfish needs. That obviously doesn't mean to give up your autonomy in the family, but you might as well try to create memories and make a difference in your kids life than just sitting at home like a bum.
