Yeah, but you shouldnt lie about things when making public statements, or at least ones that can be shown as lies easily. Specially when Linus himself says companies need to do better and harshly criticizes others for doing what he is literally doing right now. Lying about paying Billet Labs back got shot down hard when they fired back that they were only contacted after GN released their video.

It wasn't exactly a lie. If you were keeping up, the Colton saying he was going to pay them was sent to the wrong email address. So they really did they had already agreed to pay.

But Linus really shouldn't have responded on the forums like he did. That was moronic as hell.

Linus is a "Very Emotional" man with ADD & bad memory.

He's not perfect, he'll be the first one to tell you that. He'll make mistakes.

But he's going to learn from them.

The GN video wasn't monetized. The apology video being monetized is just bad optics which in this case is poor buisness.

And the timeline for the communication Faux Paux is on Colton for screwing shit up.

Linus didn't even discover the Billet incident until several hours later. Then Linus offers the apology himself.

Colton accidentally put up their prototype for auction to the charity. He admits to it in the video, go watch it.
Then he apologizes and offers immediately to pay them back in full (unconditionally).
But he CC's the wrong department.

ergo the time delay.

Things like this happen in a company.

Colton seems to be a scapegoat at this point. With how much Linus seems to hold contempt for other companies wrongdoings, you would think he would handle this better.

LMG is given so much free shit that they've lost all sense of what's truly theirs to use

The new parts for new tests claim was absurd given how they regularly talk about pulling cards out of inventory or their random mega-build of the day.

The new CEO did start talking about the entire debacle / drama.
But the entire crew is being transparent about their portion of the screw-ups.
That's a good thing, everybody admitting to their portion of screw-ups is good for transparency.
They state what they're going to do to fix things.
Everybody who is in a management position who screwed up, they admit to their mistakes.

Nothing wrong with that.

Just having a CEO walk out and take all the blame publically is not a good move.
It's a classic "Pin all the blame" on one person and hope that they're disposable later on.
If you mess up, you own up to it, you admit it, apologize for it, figure out what you need to fix it or prevent it from happening again.
That's a far better solution than having the CEO being a "Talking Blame Absorption Machine".

I don't know anything about this guy (Linus). Does he have apologists the same way Elon does? Because one of the posters ITT is giving me Elon fanboy vibes.

this reminds me of a few years ago when a streamer won a give away from a PC builder and he refused to give it to her because she was a small streamer with few twitter followers

his contest had no rules at all but he still refused to honor the contest and instead made fun of her

this went viral his company ended up going bankrupt over it he had to sell his remaning inventory at a loss and said streamer wound up being given a FAR better computer from a different PC builder

LMG has been pretty not transparent about their portion of the screw-ups and having management admit to their mistakes. So while we can discuss if a C level should take the blame for the structures he has put into place in the company he owns, we don't even need to get that far.

It takes time to turn a ship, companies don't exactly move as fast as an individual or collective internet mob outrage who are more than happy to play judge, jury, executioner.

We should be happy that they acknowledge the problem, admitted to screwing up, and are moving on with steps to fix the issue.

Anyone else think that Linus, like a cockroach, will survive this?

Lately we've seen youtubers with way less business and PR savvy weather similar harassment scandals by basically ducking out until the heat dies down, and then releasing a careful statement disputing the most direct / least substantiated claims. Meanwhile Linus probably has an MBA or equivalent in experience and knew to shut everything down immediately when the sexual harassment claims dropped and hire a 'third party investigator.'

By the end of this nobody will care about the prototype shit, all that will matter is whether the sexual harassment claims can be substantiated. And most likely the investigation will end in a statement like "we couldn't find any concrete evidence this happened, but regardless LTT has ramped up HR to make sure nothing like it CAN happen." And based on other channels, that will be enough for most of the audience to accept and move on.

I just have no faith in anyone receiving consequences for this kind of thing if it's true, because most often it doesn't seem to happen. It may seem right now that the whole world besides some CE trolls have walked away from LTT, but I just saw the same happen for SuperMega for a couple days of them staying quiet until they released careful statements that basically defused all the attention.

Linus Tech Tips - What do we do now

I worked with Linus once in 2016. A client wanted their desk bike to be reviewed. It was a work desk that doubled as an excercise bike. Because Linus didnt also show that it could be used as a standing desk, the client demanded a refund. Linus rightfully said no, so then the company demanded Linus not upload the video. So he never did, and got paid to do nothing.

The client then paid Mathias to do the same thing, and he also forgot to show it could be used as a standing desk, so he edited it with an out of place quick cut to show it. Needless to say the client was pissed again.

In 2016 Linus was charging 12k for a video, while Mathias was charging 30k.

Linus Tech Tips - What do we do now

Yeah lol. Most of the team says kind of the right thing, the Linus comes and pisses over it. Like the guy before him literally goes "We should try to make ourselves better by putting other people down, and I need to help control Linus" and Linus is purposefully shown in the video to interrupt him in order to put down other people. They deliberately undermine their own apology to make jokes.

If your "We'll do better" video spends as much time complaining about how hard it is, and also includes pot shots at third parties, and also showcases the behavior that caused the issue, that's not inspiring.
