What do you think the difference would be if people had 1 year to decide vs. 1 day?

Are people able to discuss their votes over that year? In that case, I think blue wins, because people would have time to convince others of the innocent children issue.

I think blue steadily becomes the more popular answer with more time and more communication.

Counterpoint: the longer you give people, the higher chance people try to weaponize the buttons, because *waves hands in the general direction of human history* so to ensure no one dies, red becomes the more popular option the longer things go.

I'm imagining babies being strapped into a machine where they will randomly kick one of the two buttons. So, I am imagining millions of babies will be murdered as a baseline, rather evenly spread throughout the world. Which, sure, there are people who still would not want to risk themselves to save them. But even if I determined humanity can just have more babies, what if my sister or my father wants to save them? There would eventually be someone I do care about saving who will want to save someone else. I think this would override a lot of the nightmare scenarios. I think there is a domino effect that leads to blue becoming the overwhelming favorite.

I don't know about this red/blue thing, and I don't care.

As for what has been laid out in this topic:

- I can choose the heart option and can be on my way from this weird little aside

- I am an agent of chaos/are suicidal and choose the skull button as I am totally into the all risk and no added benefit option

And again, some demon mouthpiece like Trump telling people that Butter emails will willingly kill herself and the margins become razor thin. Extrapolate that out across the world and I don't have faith in humanity as a whole.

Therefore, the only winning move is to not play, ie also pick red.

we have plenty of examples in human history where people weren't solely driven by the desire to survive, so maybe their wiring was defective

It's supposed to be mental recreation. You don't need to think less or more of someone's moral character for simply arguing an abstract point. But here it's devolved into name-calling.

Blues beat any red-hinting person on the spot. Law enforcement forgives any violence against reds, so this escalates to murder quickly. The world's governments point their military and intelligence forces towards finding hidden reds. The first 6 months are contentious, some try to fight and reason. The last 6 are calm. Public hangings of reds occur every weekend in cities. Every 3-4 weeks in more rural areas. No one dares speak of red, but they keep finding people to execute week after week.

I'm gladly pressing blue at the end of that year.

Imagine diluting that apathy by 1,000,000x for the 3 billion blue button martyrs. They won't even get a wikipedia page. They'll be fully erased from history.

In fact we don't have to imagine. The black plague killed 30% of the global population. They are now only spoken about in the same breath as rats and feces.

What are you talking about? Thousands are written into books. Hundreds are saints and have holidays and shit. And yeah a bunch are household names. They have entire religions named after them, or at least a park bench.

And there are thousands more who have nothing.

Also being a name in a book that most people have never read isn't exactly the stuff of legends anyway. This isn't much different than something like the Vietnam Wall or the victims of 9/11 that you mentioned before.

Yes, the names are technically recorded for posterity, but most people don't know them.

I asked my brother the red/blue question and he said blue. Then I asked him the heart/skull question and he said skull because skull is the same button as blue and he wanted to be consistent. I asked him to imagine I asked the heart/skull question before the red/blue question and he thinks that he would still say the same thing. If you say so lol

But yeah my brother is a blue/skull lol

That surely is a rational human who's not considering virtue at all
