try this if you have cards, it's how I use them:

shuffle the deck 3 times (could be more, I stick to 3 so i dont subconsciously do weird stuff)
cut the deck. finish thinking about the question as you do this.

a "question" is something you want more insight into

i wanted more insight into my Donkey Kong quest (to get a killscreen)

deal 3 cards, these explain the past, present, and future, respectively, in relation to the situation.

my reading, just now:

past: 3 of staves
-a figure stands, with three staves confidently planted into the ground, looking at the horizon at sunset or sunrise.
-I've 100% mastered 3/4 of the Donkey Kong boards. I know this, i knew this.

present: the hanged man
-a dude is hung, upside down, from a tree
-not as negative as it looks, but it's accurate. I feel stuck, like this guy, but I also know that this card is kind of positive. i had a friend with the card tattoo'd on his forearm. i am definitely "hung up" on getting a donkey kong kill screen

future: death
-lol
-i swear to god the cards fucking work
-prayer doesn't work
-tarot cards do
-also not a "bad" card; death represents change and mutability. ill have to "die" a lot in the game to reach my goals!

I just did that. The cards work. This is repeatable if you have tarot cards.

hexagrams also work, but most people don't know what the i-ching is. look lets do it now, what should we ask the i-ching? same thing: we are looking for insight into a question.

should i ask the oracle about divination itself? try to gain some insight on why divination even works at all? ask about politics? i dont know! Ill leave this to CE. someone give me a question and I'll "cast" a "hexagram" about it.

im saying divination _works_. it always works. it's repeatable. psychology _could_ explain it, I'll grant you that. HOWEVER, I'm saying this: it fucking works. Do it yourself. I won't claim all methods of reading Tarot; I'm saying my method works, if you follow my instructions. Do it, have it not work, and then tell me it didn't work. Can anyone do that?

I dont bother reading too much into if the card is inverted or not. I mean this was about something dumb like donkey Kong. And even with that I got accurate information as far as I can see. As I said this is repeatable, do it or don't I dont even care.

If u like the I ching then u shouldn't be closed minded about tarot either. I don't feel like outlining the entire concept of a hexagram, but since some ppl know what they are we will go ahead and see what the oracle says.

The question in my mind is "what are we to make of all this weird divination shit, despite the fact that we are scientifically-minded atheists"

I'd just like to point out that we are least deserve some credit for asking the real questions here. You have to admit this is not the type of question religion would accept so maybe this isn't just total bullshit like Christianity or whatever.

Not everyone reads tarot the same way. Ignoring Inversions is perfectly legit. >_>

That said I'm not into tarot as a tool of divination. I use them mostly as a meditation tool.

there is a "4th component" to my tarot readings that I didnt share earlier.

After reading the past/present/future I look at the bottom of the deck for the force that is "governing" the situation, past present future, a kind of governing theme or whatever...

of course, in that donkey kong tarot reading, that "guiding" card was "the sun"

i mean still i maintain that I am an ashiest, more extreme that you, and yes im saying divination works i, again, have no explanation.

I dont think you have to be 100% behind it. i think you can be skeptical, but maybe you do have to give it an "honest" try by whatever your definition of that is.

im not saying that it will predict the winning lottery numbers.

im saying it will give you insight into a complicated situation.
