And the critic's consensus from the first season is most of the reviewers at the time were just really uncomfortable with the satire.

I'm so glad I bailed on the last season >_> I watched 2 episodes and was like NOPE! So it didn't sully my memories of the series too much

I haven't watched every episode (just the ones I'd catch while watching Adult Swin), but all the ones I've seen were hilarious. What's the problem many have exactly?

Season 1 is rough around the edge, buts that's true of many Seasons 1

Season 2&3 skyrocketed in quality, every time I come across a clip, I end up watching a episode or 3

Season 4 was shaky it had too few good episodes. Most of them were based in current events, which isn't bad, but the grounded misadventures of Huey/ Riley were typically the better episodes

Yeah I like season 1 but rewatching it a couple of years ago, it was pretty rough and unrefined at times.

2 and 3 are definitely the peak of the series tho

It wasn't made for everyone. It's the developer's vison, like a FROM Software game. Like it or leave it alone.

doesnt surprise me. came out in a time where white media reviewers were all like "we love black media! we love black artists! just....maybe keep it over there, eh? Don't get too uppidy, you know."

Boondocks Season 1 and 2 are a legitimate 9/10. 3 and 4 were....badder.

I'd consider it one of the best animated shows I've seen tbh.

And Uncle Ruckus has always been god awful, I hate that he's so popular. AND on top of that my man Ceasar never made it in, but Ruckus got backported into the comic, pure bull shit.

That's crazy, one of my favorite shows.

S2 is the best season, and there is some weakness to S1 storylines.

I did a brief presentation on the show in college, and a white girl in my class said that the show made her uncomfortable.

I thought it was an okay show.

Liked some episodes, got bored with it pretty quick. I can see why some people love it though, it's got some sharp writing in between the cliches.

I only ever watched Season 1 and enjoyed it. I especially liked episode 3 Guess Hoes Coming to Dinner. I thought that one was great. Not sure why I never kept up with the series as I did enjoy it.

I dont think its nearly as good as Black Dynamite animated series though.

Damn, those first 2 seasons were comedy gold. Would have expected higher.

Yeah, when the first season dropped, most people who watched Adult Swim viewed the show as their breakthrough in terms of satire. It was lauded as their Chappelle's Show.

Fuck ya, I own the first 2 seasons on dvd as well as a collection with all 4 (unfortunately it's French-based so I can only play it on certain players) and that's one of my favorite deleted episodes, The Uncle Ruckus Show.

The fourth season was a huge downgrade in quality so you haven't missed much.

The MLK episode is one of my favorite pieces of satire/political commentary I've ever seen.

I might be alone in this but I get upset at the amount of "fans" who just see the show as comedy and quote memorable lines from stinkmeaner, riley or the booty warrior

But when it comes to the messages or social commentary it's way different like they don't care as much about what the show has to say they just want funny black people shenanigans but refuse to have any nuance

There were multiple storylines based on real events that happened in Louisville, KY. I always wondered if one of the writers was from there or something. Riley wearing the glasses and talking about "It made me feel like less of a person" when the teacher said "I just repeated it back to him" was lifted word for word from a news story in KY. Also, the bad ass kid who was influencing Riley and stole the car for another.

Youre not alone at all in that. Twas a real shame a lot of the real messages went over many peoples heads.
