but can't find the year when it started development.

A DBD fanboy is arguing that DBD was being developed before Friday the 13th but Friday the 13th started development as an homage to Friday the 13th in 2015 when the IP holders approached Gun about the license.

Can't find the DBD development date anywhere.

presumably before 2015 if it released in 2016. games typically arent finished in a year.

A developer says "two and a half years" in an April 2016 post here - https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/364040166674360890/#c364040166676011830

My math sucks but I guess that puts it at late 2013/early 2014?

looked into it some because im bored

https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/364040961449817788/

posts here and in a few other topics on steam linked to something that apparently said it had been in development for 6 years prior to 2016. unfortunately said links no longer work, but multiple people have referenced it, so that suggests 2010

that doesnt necessarily mean it was in development that entire time but likely that the idea for it came about then

According to a video where Gun and illfonic talk about how Friday the 13th came to be, they said the idea for Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp was kicked around by the team since 1998. That's crazy that they had the idea that long.

based on your use of the word "fanboy" i assume youre one of those trying to argue dbd ripped off friday the 13th and were hoping to use the development date as proof?

Sucks they didn't develop it more then. Imagine if they had taken the same concept but incorporated just a few more movies into the fold. I hate DBD but I am impressed at the number of collaborations and cameos there are in that game.
