Seeing as nobody (but Roba) cares about Eiko, this feels like a good opportunity to drop some stats that I was planning to yesterday but didn't want to step on GenesisSaga's *~hotness rankings~*

Sometime after contest XXI, maybe during XXII, I put together a graphic showing the placement (in order) for the 25 new-or-returning entrants for the contest that year. Seeing as the first two years of the leftyera had both 2nd and 3rd places going to such characters, it was a trend that surely couldn't keep up and alas it didn't (w/ the top placement going to Emet-Selch who finished 12th)

I guess I abandoned it for XXIII since we had an irregular 28 instead of 25, but in any case I've dusted it off and updated it for the lefty era to-date, including Eiko's 35th, and the protruding extra 3 names for contest XXIII. We have 7 new-or-returning entrants this year remaining which are listed in alphabetical order so don't get any ideas...

Also I'm thinking Gamefaqs is going to compress the shit out of this so I'll probably have to edit my post a bunch/edit the pic to maximize its appearance but, we'll see.

Ok awesome it didn't compress it that badly, it's good enough! Fun trends:
-100th place has never gone to a new entrant
-XXIII's extra three spots getting almost instantly wiped out, lol
-Reno's 3 boot placements......
-Despite different placements, Cindy coincidentally finishing 12th among new entrants in both XX and XXIV (if the same applies to any other character I didn't notice - but I also didn't look that closely!!)
-in the lefty era to-date Emet-Selch is the only debut character to finish tops among the new entrants, though 3 of the 7 remaining could match him!

So unless you're literally a ff14 or FFL character, there's always a newcomer or returner in top 5.

Are Laguna and Quistis really 'returners'? They were soft-booted sure but haven't been absent from a contest in a long time.

Yeah fair enough the nomenclature might not be the greatest, I was just hesitating to say "new entrant" in places because then people would say "that person isn't new they were in contest x, y, z".

Basically anyone who has to go through nominations to re-enter the contest. Re-entrants? Except new characters aren't re-entering. Ah...

Anyways you got me thinking about chopping out softboot returnees and seeing how the table looks then, I'll throw that together later but in the meantime this is the complete picture of where characters who had to go through nominations finished in that year.

Makes sense. I wonder who will be last standing among that batch though, I've gotta figure it'll be one of the Qs. Unless Apollo has a big base, I keep forgetting he's in the contest.

If Quistis is the last one standing among that crew, I'll be surprised (and thrilled).
