I just spent an hour doing Depulso puzzle 2 and all I got was $60 green pleb gear and some worthless decoration for my room. The only thing that felt rewarding in the entire game was the ending.

Wow. Looks like they have many things to improve on for Hogwarts Legacy 2. I hear FFXVI has an awful reward system as well.

I will say it had the most satisfying ending I've seen in a game for years. None of that quick cutscene shit then credits we sometimes get after playing for 100 hours. It actually involved doing a couple more quests before the credits rolled.

Seems pretty cool to me. I'm not a big enough fan to buy it myself, but it looks like a dream come true for people who are.

Yeah the real rewards were exploring the castle itself. Gear didn't really do very much, even good stuff, and there aren't any other truly meaningful rewards (except spells).

I hope if a sequel does happen they enable more customization for combat.

All I know about the game is the silly controversy. Divorce that from the discussion and what are we left with - is it a good, at least passable game?

The entire gear system is just truly bizarre. It has a crafting component, but the only things you can actually craft are weapons and two armor pieces that are strictly linear upgrades and unlock one at a time after major story events or a very rare side quest. The standard crafting materials are also completely worthless because you get shitloads of them and all of the upgrades require specific, unique materials which are either acquired through completing sidequests or beating bounty enemies.

It also makes kind of a to-do about being able to upgrade your weapons and armor...and you can if you do things in the dumbest possible way. After you unlock new gear, you can buy it at the merchant in your hub or you can ignore that and go straight to the blacksmith to craft a +1 version of the sword. There is no +2 version. It's baffling.

There's literally no reason for there to be a crafting system, it may as well just give you the sword at the end of the sidequest.

Its expanded in NG+. Not much but a little.

First game I got on PS5. Was ok combat, the castle looked great and the graphics were ok. Rest was mid to bad.

Tbf, you posted right after me bitching about FF16, so I knew what you meant.

One thing that surprised me was how small the map is for a game like this. Looks like maybe 1/4 the size of a newer Assassin's Creed game. It doesn't have a lot of empty terrain so there's that, but it just felt small.

Not really, no. Besides the literal aspect of being in Hogwarts there is not a single thing that it does that is better than the average AAA open world experience. And even with the Hogwarts thing it isn't a measure of quality of the game, only of the nostalgia of person experiencing it.

I got bored around the 30s hour mark. The only good part was the graphics. I spent most of my time just gawking at the environment.

I'll replay it again after I upgrade my pc and tv. But I doubt I'll ever complete it. I feel no incentive to do that

Edit: I did enjoy the combat too but there ain't much to it after a short while cuz of the lack of enemy variety.

He went to a few classes here and there to learn spells that were more like cutscenes, then he was all over the place killing people for 95% of the school year.

I saw one cop in the entire game. And she seemed to leave everything to a student who dropped in out of nowhere.

At least the 100+ poachers I killed didn't leave any bodies to clean up.

Yeah agree with the map size but I dont think its fair to compare it to AC. Those guys are standard Ubisoft collectathons and I dont want that in my FF games.

The good news though is that if we take this game as a tech demo for FF7R2 things are looking good as hopefully theyll expand on the open world side for that.

I was talking about Hogwarts. I don't see any of the FF7 remakes having an open world although that would be amazing.
