So just to clarify it is referencing the side shoulder the persons head is on?

If that is the case then that is accurate for me. I can't recall ever being comfortable with a hug and all of mine were right sided.

It's not roughly. It's nonsense in general. It forgets hand dominance, potential injuries that people have had which make certain actions more comfortable. It ignores foot dominance, which could override hand dominance.... You could go on and on for why that's bad.

I'm telling you I got to the original article and it has nothing to do with the brain. But the neuroflombology doesn't mean that there aren't consitent patterns of hugging behavior! Just that it doesn't become more real by shoving a bunch of biology words in there.

So let me also say that the reason they are talking about brain lateralization and emotionality is because there's a classic literature of undersampled studies showing EEG power lateralization during approach vs avoidance behavior.

There was just recently an extremely well powered study that pretty conclusively showed no EEG lateralization during approach vs avoidance behavior, so it's worth noting that even the vague neuroflombology had its baseplate swiped out from under it.

I hug based on what is more convenient at the time and dont even think about it. Which im sure is the actual case for most people.

im not going to just left hug my wife or kids when I have stuff in my left hand which I usually do since my shoulder injury. Studies like this are dog water.

The goal of studies like this is to estimate what people do in the absence of these types of environmental affordances. You might say "but then it doesn't matter because it's not describing what people actually do in the real world because these factors exist more often than not" but the point is not to describe what people do, but to understand a pattern that might shed light on underlying psychological processes.

This seems to conveniently correlate to many hugs i didnt want to give and was just being nice i just happened to go right. It felt i could give a weaker more distanced hug.

But any hug i really wanted to give with no social awkwardness like a romantic hug that the other person also wanted i didnt give it much thought and went left to "cross" bodies and give a deeper more emotional hug.

I guess this is a coincidental explanation for my experiences with hugs...

Ok the people calling bs i just hope you hug on a somewhat normal basis to disprove this at least from your experience.

Im not making a dig like you dont get hugs but at least be able to say from personal experience that isnt the case.

I just notice i right hug when im suppose to hug someone i dont want to but left hug when i want the hug.....

Ah, I was picturing.. side hugs. Like one armed, side by side things. Never really thought about it, likely never will again.
