Excitebike 64 always seemed to get overlooked. Legitimately one of the best n64 racing games

I wonder if they'll leave NES Excitebike intact. They remove it on the Wii VC but that made sense because it was another game that was for sale on the service so potentially a money loss. Here, that's not a concern.

Not that it matters but it would be a neat little Easter egg to have it intact.

This is one of the few N64 cartridges that I still have left (seriously, it feels like my N64 collection has shrunken over the past 20 years and I'm not sure why).

Yeah, it's a cool game and not many people have played it. Maybe because it (visually) looks like some generic branded racing game and doesn't immediately stand out as part of the "Nintendo series". But the core mechanic of a turbo button that you have to limit to avoid overheating was distinctly recreated in this game so you can feel how it actually is a sequel to the NES game. The tracks are a mix of indoor dirtbike tracks and outdoor wildnerness tracks and the outside ones are much more interesting by design (although I'd probably appreciate the indoor tracks more as an adult than I did as a kid).

There's also a full sized track editor in the game which has surprising depth. That's another thing that was in NES Excitebike which they managed to adapt to 3D.

Oh, I just watched the actual video. Was this supposed to be like remake of the game's original commercial from 2000, or did they literally make a fresh 2000-styled commercial from scratch just for this video?

It really did play like an old video game commercial haha. It kinda reminded me of AVGN's Big Rigs parody commercial.

I remember playing this game in a Wal-Mart electronics demo section while my parents walked around shopping the whole time. I completely forgot it existed until now.

Well it's a good commercial. It actually tells you what the game's about unlike most modern ones. I was just wondering whether there was a reference or not.

Also as a reminder, this game has a bunch of bonus modes, including the original vehicular soccer game.

The released games plus those two make 27. I believe the original datamine suggested that there would be 32? So presumably there are 5 left.

I'm gonna guess something like Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Tooie, Bomberman 64, and Ogre Battle 64. Perhaps one of those will be swapped out for some obscure cult classic like Mischief Makers or Body Harvest.
