I just rewatched 'Plan and Execution', S6E7 of Better Call Saul and I think it has the highest payoff of any TV show episode I've ever seen after thinking about it. What other greats of the medium do you all feel are out there?

Doctor Who's "Heaven Sent" and the Black Sails Season 2 finale are right up there, though.

Mr. Robot has a couple of contenders. IIRC 407 Proxy Authentication Required would be one of them. As would Whiterose. runtime-error for the simulated whole episode one-take is really cool too.

Person of Interest's The Day The World Went Away was great too IIRC but it's been a while since I watched the show to best be able to pick out single episodes.

For Breaking Bad I was always more fond of To'hajiilee over Ozymandias even though the latter is the most liked overall by others.

With BCS I'm not sure Chicanery was ever topped but a couple came very close

Friends has the obvious One Where Everybody Finds Out, all 6 of them on top form

Community has Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas but I'm not sure that's my favourite anymore, probably need to rewatch. Remedial Chaos Theory is probably the immediate replacement

I can't really look past the s6 finale for GoT though there's a ton from like s4 that I could put up there

West Wing s1-2 is like a 45-run winning streak but I guess 17 People is the best of them

Brooklyn 99 isn't my favourite show. Boyle kills almost every scene he's in, which is one reason why The Box is my favourite - (virtually) no Boyle. The way it's shot feels different, the acting and comedic timing is fucking great from all of them, and it has a great payoff

Oh and the penultimate episode of Wandavision, even though it was only 9 episodes long. Finale was kind of mediocre, but the penultimate episode was a killer and the best episode of any MCU show

It's kinda funny to me. It seems like the writers said "ok this is going to be a real storyline for Phoebe, she's gonna be the serious focus. So what are the other 5 gonna do?" and they came up with the game, which took all the attention

I'd probably have to say In the Woods from Louie (Season 4, Episode 11/12). A perfect coming-of-age storyline, some of the most brutally honest meditating on parenthood, and just unflinching in showing how hard it is to emotionally cope with all the pain and heartbreaks in our lives.

I'd pick that or Home from The X-Files.

My vote for this is still always Friendly Fire from Burn Notice.

The characters are kinda self explanatory and the plot is self contained. But it's better than typical pilot episodes cause it doesn't spend time getting it's footing.

The story of the episode itself is ridiculous but I love it. It's not the best episode mentioned in this topic I'm sure and not the best episode in its series, but for the criteria of stand alone it's great.

trying to think of episodes I've watched over and over... Attack on Titan 3x17 "Hero" comes to mind as definitely fulfilling in many ways but probably not the best ever.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood "Death of the Undying".

ok trying to think non-anime stuff.... DS9 "In the Pale Moonlight" from earlier in this topic is a great reco, love that one so much except the Sisko solo monologuing but everything else is golden. Lost - The Constant and Breaking Bad - Ozymandias. Daredevil Season 3 finale maybe. Also the Oz riot episode, 1x08 I think.
