eh. the rich people mall's bookstore shut down a couple years ago. but i think mostly people still go just because it's a big city/

I don't know, I haven't been by to check.

I have two within 5 minutes of my house. Parking lots are always packed so yeah I guess. Although I haven't actually gone to a mall in like 10 years lol

yeah bookstores as a whole are really struggling iirc

One is kinda dead. It's only being supported by a movie theater and Barnes and Noble. The other has a modest crowd, but really only on weekends. Gets very busy though around Christmas time.

I live near Japantown mall in SF. An article says its actually doing better now than it was pre pandemic. I think having a specialty geared toward Japanese shops and restaurants really helps, and it always seems decently busy when I go.

No, they're pretty much dead besides the side stores like Target or WalMart. The inside are usually dead with mostly games and trampolines for kids.

The one in my hometown is looking to convert it into one of those live work play die kind of place.

No, Mines has nothing but overpriced clothes, and jewelry, a upward escalator that hasn't been fixed in forever and even if it was all but one of the food courts upstairs have been shutdown.

The play center for kids is probably the only thing worth the drive nowadays.

The malls near me are all thriving. I can only think of one over the years that's gone defunct and is no longer in business.

The only one we do have now is still pretty popping, I think a big part of that too though is that is sits right in the middle of the busiest place in the city.

The big ones seem to be doing well. The Grove, Del Amo Fashion Center and Ontario Mills are some of the biggest malls in So Cal and they were all still busy the last time I visited them.

Probably not but they are still expanding with new stores. Tho not much of a crowd usually

The galleria mall is always hoppin. The Arden mall is always busy but its less fancy than the galleria is. Its in a way more lower class area

Weren't like 3 malls in the LA area hit with major smash and grabs? Was in national news

San Francisco:

Westfield (formerly now) is dying slowly and is nowhere near where it was before the pandemic. Stonestown is doing ok. Serramonte is doing ok too but its limited as a mall.

The mall of America still stands.

The Tucson mall I wouldn't call booming but seems busy enough each time I visit

On the other hand the main mall I went to as a kid, the Foothills mall is currently being torn down and replaced with a hotel and music venue.

This does give me a good excuse to share a Tucson meme about how empty the Foothills mall was

Last December is the only time I've been to a mall in like 10 years. It was depressing how dead it was, especially since it was during the Christmas season. Granted, it was a Tuesday afternoon or something, but still.

Yes. I believe the most recent one was at Westfield Topanga, which sucks because it's a nice mall. The AMC there is brand new, which is great.

and in my experience traveling to different places thats generally true. Although Im counting outdoor malls

I think the closest one is doing OK. They remodeled it not too long ago and got some new alternative businesses to move in. Things like Dave and Busters and some restaurants besides the stores.

In my area we have the mall ghetto people go to, the mall that teenagers go to, the mall that everyone else goes to, and the mall that rich people go to. Those malls switch around a lot depending on when the malls remodel. The current rich people mall used to be the mall that only teenagers would go to.

One I grew up with is completely dead now, and has been for awhile. Another one down the street is always booming, and crazy busy during the weekends. Dead one is kinda in the ghetto though and the other one is in a more middle class area.

One is doing great, one is doing ok, and one is dead.

I hit up the movies 2-3 times a week and both theaters I frequent are connected to malls. They're fairly packed on the weekends, and not entirely dead during the week.

you watch like 3 movies a week? are you under some special AMC, special club plan? hollywood puts out such trash these days. Couldn't stand the last few times i went to the theaters

yeah that ain't that much money, compared to how much it is normally to go the the movies. But where are all these great movies that are worth seeing?

I've seen some good smaller releases recently like Theater Camp and Jules. I'm also not picky so I'll see absolute crap as well.

Yes, there is a giant outdoor "village" style mall that is always super busy (and expanding)

Yeah, but theres also some that are half empty because they feel the need to put one on the first few floors of apartment buildings, whether theres call for them or not.
