I get Automata is a sequel so it had to be better, but I found the gameplay in Nier Replicant such a chore to play in comparison. I just ended up watching videos to get more out of the story experience than actually playing it.

It's such an incredibly good game imho. And once you get a hang of the spells, it's super fun.

I'm not interested in brother Nier.

Waiting for it to be $5, my backlog is gigantic anyway.

Hey, as long as you enjoyed a great game, there's nothing wrong with that.

I will say, it offers an alternative version rather than outright replacing the original. The gameplay is better but also the extra content is 10/10.

Waiting for time to play it and for the price to come down. If I finish totk before Baten Kaitos comes out, I may check it out.

Automata was a 8/10 game, and I haven't heard a single positive thing about Replicant gameplay, story or music. The hype of the game died immediately and I wasn't interested enough

Also Replicant arguably has one of the best stories in gaming. It's...really rough in terms of emotional impact.

It is. I've seen videos and read up on it, I wish they'd remaster or put on PSnow so I can play them.

Because I get way too distracted. It is currently sitting on my shelf, unopened, along with Mortal Shell, MegaMan 11, BotW, Mario Vs Rabbids and a handful of PS+ freebies, PS3 and PS2 games. I tend to rotate around genres so I don't get burned out, but Elden Ring didn't help I played almost nothing but that for like 8 months.

Since release, I've also finished the ME trilogy, Outer Worlds, Hellpoint (currently playing it for the DLC), Kingdom Hearts 3, MediEvil, Control, Bioshock Infinite, TLOU 2, Elden Ring, Ratchet Deadlocked, Dragon Age Origins, GoW Ragnarok, Remnant From the Ashes, Hellblade, Jedi Fallen Order, Drakengard 3, FF7R, New Vegas, Cyberpunk, Yakuza Kiwami.

As you can see, I am all over the map with the games I play and how much time passes between when they come out and when I get around to them. A major reason I didn't try too hard to get a PS5.

I played the PS3 version and messed up and missed out on completion with one of the weapons and one of the side quests before the time skip.

I plan to eventually play the re release on PS4 but really weird playing as the brother...since I was so invested as the dad and I have so many feelings playing as the dad with my own little girl.

I did. It's... okay. Automata is clearly the better product overall, but Replicant is still good enough. I wish they had done more with the remake so it wasn't as repetitive (needing to beat the game 3-5 times with minimal changes between each is frankly ridiculous), and while the story is good, it kind of falls apart when you actually think about it. Has similar faults as Spec Ops: The Line, where the writers have a certain point, but it doesn't quite land upon scrutiny.

Nah. His LP's are what introduced me to the Drakengard games because I loved his Xenogears one so much. I think he's basically stopped doing them after his daughter died. Seems like he came back to finish his Shadow Hearts Covenant LP, but obviously his heart isn't in it anymore and he's having a rough time. Last time I was rereading one of his things, it appears his youtube channel is gone as well, so all the videos are lost.

Its still too expensive or else I would have tried it by now.

I certainly doubt its still worth $60 in 2023 but that's what they're still asking for it.

Protip for any act 1 weapons you miss: "Buy it in the Aerie after you get the Aerie mayors letter from Popola in Act 2. Other Act 1 weapons are available for purchase from the weapons vendor there too. Just buy all the weapons before triggering the situation that happens there.
IIRC itd be a good idea to save when you get there in case you trigger the situation by accident. So you can restore to that save and go straight to the weapons vendor."

I wouldn't say it falls apart. There's some stuff that needs supplemental material to understand further(like why Shades attack Gestalt Nier in that supermarket or why Yonah is sick even before she has the Black Scrawl ) but I don't see what specific bits need explanation beyond that.

Yeah, that's more a thing that a lot of companies do. When it's on sale is the only time to buy it digitally. Amazon has it for like 20 or 30 bucks usually. I'd recommend there or like Gamestop.

It's a great game. Very interesting characters and world. I've been playing it off and on as I'm juggling other games, but I really want to keep going.

I liked what I saw, and that's why I gave Automata a chance because it had Yoko Taro behind the story and Platinum behind the gameplay.

I also bought Replicant when it came out, but the gameplay still isn't a draw, for me, so I haven't gotten very far.

It's quite fun once you get the hang of the magic. You can actually replace some of your defensive moves with spells, which I liked since the spells are a ton of fun.
