Everyone blames ticketmaster for their fees and allowing a resale market to get abused on their site, but why don't people go after pop stars that are making millions like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, Bono, etc? They can't stand up against Ticketmaster and handle their own tickets with the venue?

Because they don't care about you. They care about making money.

They should, but Ticketmaster has willfully taken up the role of being the punching bag for them and theyre happy to oblige

When Robert Smith cut prices for The Cure's recent tour, there was a lot of talk that not all of the stars are in the same position contractually to make that call because there can be all kinds of middlemen. Still, he proved that it is possible for the stars to get to that level of control.

Also, The Cure show I went to was horrendously oversold and I'd never been so nickel and dimed at a venue, so that money is going to be recouped one way or another.

I remember hearing about that and was pretty proud of them. I listed examples of some of the top earners in the music industry that are beloved by their fans too. You would think it would be even easier for them to take a stand.

Yeah this idea that it's all Ticketmaster's fault is nonsense. Both ticketmaster and the artists are both at fault for why the ticket prices are so damn high. Sure it's Ticketmaster holding the majority of the marketshare on the Concert ticket pricing that started this whole debacle, but the majority of artists not stepping in and asking questions why they're making record money? Most of the artists are complicit by allowed for Ticketmaster to implement the "dynamic pricing" crap. The Cure is probably the prime example of Artists fighting back against Ticketmasters ticket pricing. Ticketmaster just end up becoming the scapegoat because they're a faceless giant corporation while everyone's favorite artist/bands can just claim ignorance because people love them.

I was actually going to point out the incident with The Cure, and how Ticketmaster essentially fucked fans over by adding additional fees to the process

Ticketmaster has exclusive deals with venues. Unless you're holding a concert in a field with a very understanding property owner, you don't control ticket prices.

John Oliver did a show on it. Its not that simple as to simply stop using ticket master.

it's kinda the same argument people use against highly paid athletes though. if the market is there why shouldn't the actual performers/athletes get the lions share of the revenue since they are the ones adding value and making the product? much better than some executives getting most of the money by capitalizing on someone else's talents
