Nintendo does strike me as the type of company that would make such an announcement like this as if it were whimsical and then never once acknowledge any controversy, and continue forward like it was completely normal.

They would also have their own proprietary name and act like it was a special Nintendo thing.

Saw a lot of people say they thought it sounded a little off in the trailer but that ultimately it sounded like him....

......God I hope the AI think doesn't become the actual reality.

As someone opposed to AI being used creatively in pretty much any respect, I'm against it.

As someone with only a passing interest in Mario I low-key don't care because even in a mainline game his voiced dialogue usually amounts to "oh yah" "wahoo" and "oh no" with scattered grunts

My tolerance is zero.

I would skip out on the next Nintendo console, hand to God.

Also I'm betting this is the final Direct for anything related to the Switch

I'm fully expecting a January or February big direct to announce the Switch 2

Not officially. But, Pokemon Day is February 27 so they've been doing one roughly on that day since 2021.

they're not even called Lakitu in Japan, it was a name completely made up when it was localized. Best explanation I've seen is that it's an anagram of Tukwila with the W dropped. Tukwila, WA was the location of Nintendo of America headquarters at the time

the amount of features in this game is absolutely incredible, there's absolutely no competition this is the most exciting a 2D Mario release has ever been

early in I got a bit sad that every character plays the same and that Yoshi has godmode, but then it makes a whole lot of sense with all the online connectivity that's like holy shit, and then the wonder flowers, the badges, all very exciting

Everyone would just be Toad in races too if they had different characteristics. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a unique unlockable character or two though.

Running only badge races on castles, let's go

This really reminds me of Mario 3D World where it feels like they threw in every single idea they had into one game and I'm all for it.

I like how much new there seems to be. New enemies, locales, powers etc.

I kinda wish they hadn't shown literally every world except the last one though

Eh every single level looks unique enough, so it's not like there's just a single level archetype for a world anymore or anything. I also like that they even contextualize some levels a la the Retro Studios DKC games - like that freezing mountain that leads to the sky world, great stuff.
